• EERE social media page is live.
• Energy Savers Facebook fan page is live.
• DOE has signed a terms of service agreement with
MySpace.
• Flickr and YouTube: The Department has not yet issued
formal guidance on Flickr and YouTube, but we can
contribute content to DOE's channels.
• Twitter: We’re planning accounts for EERE, Energy
Savers, and Solar Decathlon.
• DOE guidance on social media is expected in draft for
comments soon.

Social Media
• Internal blogging capability is enabled.
– New Energy Savers and Communication Standards blogs are
live.
– Programs may submit charters to set up their own blogs.
• Program blogs
– Programs must submit a charter before a blog will be approved.
– The charter must specify a federal employee as the
administrator of the blog.
– Programs may designate any employees (including contractors)
to have posting privileges.
– Program blogs must be reviewed for standards prior to going
live.
– Our guidance for blogging is now in effect.

• Late last year, we surveyed CMS users and managers to
assess what was working and what could be improved in
the RedDot / OpenText system.
• The survey results document is available on the

CMS Survey Update
In the past few months we have …
• Engaged OpenText professional services
• Upgraded to version 9.0 of OpenText
• Tweaked the templates to allow editors and developers
to change the “content last updated” date
• Altered workload responsibilities and hired additional
personnel
• Beta-tested and established a new text editor in the
CMS, Telerik
• Done preliminary research into separating out the
publishing server from the CMS server

In the next few weeks, we will be …
• Rolling out the Telerik editor as EERE’s new, default
editor
• Rolling out an updated user guide
• Making several tweaks to the templates

• Separating publishing services from content
management services
• Researching an alteration of the process of publishing
content to the staging server
• Assessing CMS templates with the goal of streamlining
processes
• Replacing the CMS' asset transfer system (ATS)

• Cathy Zoi has set this as a high priority
• Congress, the White House, and the Secretary’s Office want to
use our success stories in speeches, direct the media to them, etc.
When?
• No launch date set
• Working to accumulate 20-30 completed, human-interest stories
before launching
– Hope to get there in next two or three weeks
– We have nine completed as of 9/14
• We’re looking for more writers with journalism experience to ramp
up the effort
