20 November 2009 New stop smoking clinic opens in Keighley Smokers in Keighley now have even more options on ways they can quit smoking. The stop smoking team from Bradford and Airedale Community Health Services have announced that a new clinic will open in Keighley. The appointment based clinic will be held every Monday from 2pm until 5pm at Sangat Centre, Malborough Street, Keighley. The first session will be held on Monday 23 November. A new text messaging service has also been set up to help people to quit smoking. The text service, set up in October, has been introduced in a bid to help even more people in the district to quit smoking. It will give local people, who want to quit smoking, easy access to the help available. Those who would like help or more information on the services available to them can book an appointment by texting ‘QUITA’ to 88020. A member of the stop smoking team will then contact them and make them an appointment. Appointments are available at a number of locations across the district, and run each day from 7.30am until 8pm. Other drop in sessions take place at St George’s Hall, Bridge Street in Bradford city centre, every Monday, between 9am and 1.45pm and at Keighley Town Hall, Bow Street, Keighley, every Thursday between 11am and 1pm. No appointment is necessary. The team have helped over 4,000 people from the district go smokefree over the past year. The support they offer includes: • choosing the right stop smoking medication, which for most people is free • practical tips to deal with cravings • expert advice on the best ways for different people to stop smoking. People are up to four times more likely to stop smoking – and stay stopped – if they get support from a trained stop smoking advisor and use some form of stop smoking medication. Anyone who wants to stop smoking can text ‘QUITA’ to 88020 and see how the team can help them. Anyone who would prefer to speak to a member of the team or book an appointment over the phone can call: 01274 202793.
