Total links before review (1): 1 “explicit” could be found. That is from profile DK5 (from
Denmark) to STU 490388.

New links after review (52): 52 “implicit” links can be made manually. Furthermore information
about parent material and land use is used in case there are more than one possible profile with that
particular combination of soil type name and dominant surface textural class.

Links after minor corrections in the database (30):

Profile DE5 to the dominant STUs 490043, 490305, 490311 & 490328: In the EST_PROF the
profile DE5 has the soil type name: Bd-2. However the data in the EST_HOR for the surface
horizon shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “1” (coarse)
instead of “2” (medium) since the amount of sand is more than 65% (90%). The “TEXT1” code is
altered to “1”.

Profile DE9 to the dominant STU 490141: In the EST_PROF the profile DE9 has the soil type
name: Be-3. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface horizon shows
that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2” (medium). However the
values in the texture class fields only have to be altered slightly so that the dominant surface
textural class would be classified as “3” (medium fine). The percentage of sand is lowered from
25% to 14%. The changes7corrections are shown in the EST_PROF and EST_HOR reports.

Profile DE14 to the dominant STU 490157, 490170 & 490295: In the EST_PROF the profile
DE14 has the soil type name: Be-1. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the
surface horizon shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2”
(medium) since the percentage of sand is below 65% (60%). The “TEXT1” code is altered to “2”.

Profile DE18 to the dominant STU 490286: In the EST_PROF the profile DE18 has the soil type
name: “Bvg-5”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface horizon
shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “4” (fine) since the
percentage of clay is equal or below below 60% (60%). In addition the soil type name should be
corrected to “Bgv”. So that the final soil type would be “Bgv-4”.

Profile DE20 to the dominant STU 490208: In the EST_PROF the profile DE20 has the soil type
name: “Eo-3”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface horizon
shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2” since the percentage
of sand is above 15% (35%). The “TEXT1” code is altered to “2”.

                                                  1
Profile DE22 to the dominant STUs 490067 & 490196: In the EST_PROF the profile DE22 has
the soil type name: “Gds-1”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface
horizon shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2” since the
percentage of sand is below 65% (40%). The dominant surface textural class is not either “4” (fine)
since the percentage of clay is equal or below 35%. The “TEXT1” code is altered to “2”.

Profile DE23 to the dominant STU 490064: In the EST_PROF the profile DE23 has the soil type
name: “Ges-3”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface horizon
shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2” since the percentage
of sand is equal or above 15% (15%). The “TEXT1” code is altered to “2”. (No dominant STU has
the soil type name Ges-3).

Profile DE24 to the dominant STU 490256: In the EST_PROF the profile DE27 has the soil type
name: “Gls-3” (Stagno-Luvic Gleysol). The soil type name “Gls-3” does not excist in the soil map.
However the soil type “Lgs-3” (Stagno-Gleyic Luvisol) does. In the “Soil Atlas of Europe” (ESBN,
2005) these two soil types are grouped together as “Stagnic Luvisol”. It is therefore considered
reasonable to reclassify “Gls” to “Lgs”. Furthermore the values in the texture fields do not qualify
for a medium fine dominant surface textural class (3) since the combined values for sand are eual or
above 15% (25%). The combined values for sand are altered to 14% so that the dominant surface
textural class will be “3”. This is considered not to affect other physical or chemical properties of
the soil (e.g. water retention, CEC etc.)

Profile DE27 to the dominant STU 490003: In the EST_PROF the profile DE27 has the soil type
name: “Gzt-3”. The soil type name Gzt does not excist. However the soil type Gtz does. The soil
type is altered to “Gtz”. No dominant STU has the soil type name and dominant surface textural
code combination: “Gtz-3”. The values in the texture fields in EST_HOR are therefore altered
slightly so that the texture data qualify for the dominant surface textural class “2” (medium). The
total amount of sand is increased from 10%-15%. This is considered not to affect other physical or
chemical properties of the soil (e.g. water retention, CEC etc.)

Profile DE28 to the dominant STU 490117: In the EST_PROF the profile DE28 has the soil type
name: “Hh-3”. The soil type name “Hh” does not excist. However the soil type “Ho” does. The soil
type is altered to “Ho”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface
horizon shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2” since the
percentage of sand is equal or above 15% (15%). The amount of sand is therefore altered to 14%
and the “TEXT1” code remains “3”. This is considered not to affect other physical or chemical
properties of the soil (e.g. water retention, CEC etc.)

Profile DE33 to the dominant STUs 490291 & 490300: In the EST_PROF the profile DE33 has
the soil type name: “Jcf-1” (Fluvi-Calcaric Fluvisol). No dominant STUs in the soil map have the
soil type name Jcf. In the “Soil Atlas of Europe” (ESBN, 2005) the soil types “Jc” (Calcaric
Fluvisol) and “Jcf” (Fluvi-Calcaric Fluvisol) are grouped together. Two dominant STUs in
Germany have the soil type names “Jc-2”. This means that the dominant surface textural class
should be altered to “2” (medium). The original dominant surface textural class is given as “1”
(coarse). A review of the texture data in EST_HOR however reveals that the dominant surface
textural class should instead be clæassified as “3” (medium fine) since the total amount of sand is
below 15% (10%). Since the required dominant surface textural class is “2” the total amount of

                                                  2
sand is altered to 15%. This is considered not to affect other physical or chemical properties of the
soil (e.g. water retention, CEC etc.)
Both of the polygons in which the dominant STUs appear are in river valleys. A corection to “Jc”
therefore seem reliable.

Profile DE34 to the dominant STU 490004: In the EST_PROF the profile DE34 has the soil type
name “Jcq-2”. This soil type name does not excist. The soil type should most likely have been “Jcg-
2” (Gleyo-Calcaric- Fluvisol).

Profile DE35 to the dominant STUs 490023, 490253, 490281 & 490387: In the EST_PROF the
profile DE35 has the soil type name: “Jeg-1”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon
database) for the surface horizon shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be
classified as “2” since the percentage of sand is below 65% (20%). The “TEXT1” code is altered to
“2”.

Profile DE41 to the dominant STUs 490056, 490060 & 490071: In the EST_PROF the profile
DE41 has the soil type name: “Lo-1”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for
the surface horizon shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “2”
since the percentage of sand is below 65% (60%). The “TEXT1” code is altered to “2”. (No
dominant STUs have the soil type name and dominant surface textural class “Lo-1”).

Profile DE56 to the dominant STU 490110: In the EST_PROF the profile DE56 has the soil type
name: “Rc-2”. The data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon database) for the surface horizon
shows that the dominant surface textural class should really be classified as “3” since the percentage
of clay is below 35% (4%) and the percentage of sand is below 15% (5%). The “TEXT1” code is
altered to “2”.

Possible link not carried out!

Profile DE31 to the dominant STU 490120 & 490124: In the EST_PROF the profile DE31 has
the soil type name: “Hl-3” (luvic Phaeozem). No dominant STUs have the soil type name Hl.
However two dominant STUs have the soil type name “Lh-3” (haplic Luvisol). This soil type does
however not excist according to FAO74 or CEC85. This could be the reason why a profile with this
soil type name was never reported. The two soil types “Hl” and Lh” are in the “Soil Atlas of
Europe” (ESBN, 2005) grouped together. The soil type name of profile DE31 could therefore
altered to “Lh”.
However the soil type name could also be renamed “Ch-3” (haplic Chernozem). In that case it could
be linked to one dominant STU. The correction is not carried out!. The stakeholder should decide if
the soil type name should be changed to either of the two.

Incorrect classification of topsoil texture:
A large portion of the profiles are classified incorrect with respect to dominant surface textural
class. This is seen when reviewing the top horizons in the est_hor.dbf (estimated horizon database).
Therefore a lot of profiles should be altered with respect to texture.

Out of the total of 60 profiles 42 can be linked to the soil map. 18 profiles are not used!
