THE BEST OF Ambienti: eterocentrismi SRAW BALES Bio-architecture? Italy is SOOOO behind, compared to countries like Austria, but already there are significant signs that the trends are changing. November concluded with an important meeting in Naples at the conference and exhibition “La produzione industriale eco-orientata per l’edilizia” for the green living project “Progetto Abitare Verde”. We also saw more “concrete” steps towards bio-construction, such as seminars on “building with straw bales” and “plastering and floors in un-cooked earth” at the Centro di Permacoltura LA BOA in Belfiore di Pramaggiore (near Venice). Try to read “Costruire con le balle di paglia” (Build with straw bales, Ed. AAM Terranova, 14 Euro) to try yourself to build alternative buildings. The book was written by Barbara Jones, member of the Straw Bale Building Association (a British association for buildings with straw bales), and it is a practical guide to plan and build straw bale homes: economic solution with low energy costs. If only it could be inserted in a mobile phone... it could open a new world, as it would not only enhance security as a fingerprint scanner, but it could be used to scan objects like pictures and business cards! The screen in question is 3.5″ LCD wide and could be used in new generation smart-phones with advanced sensorial interface and multi-touch input. It is rumored to be ready for a launch at the start of 2008, indirectly linked to Apple; need I say more!! www.pcworld.it/showPage.php?template=attualita&id=4875&masterPage=av_art.htm&sez=av/ Nottetempo A TASTE OF GROOVE Let yourselves be transported by this sound … This month, rushing in between my many trips around Europe… I would like to give you a simple music recommendation: listen to Ambivalent R U OK, from the Canadian label Minus led by Richie Hawtin. It is a double, made of seven very interesting tracks, which will take you straight to a minimal-techno atmosphere. Enjoy in particular a couple of pieces like Nuggets and R U OK. Do you find it groovy? Scene - teatro e danza su dal dietro il palco/Recensioni NAPOLI: QUORE Raffaella Giordano received the special prize UBU in 2000 for her show Quore (For a work in transformation), a show that recalls the rhythmic, blind and mysterious pulsation of life, enriched by the irony of misspelling the Italian word for “heart” (cuore), which gives a sense of oddity, which makes everything more human. A moving work without compassion, which shows the lack of coordination of life, its chaotic movement, the desperate emptiness of some gestures. A destabilizing work, which unhinges codes and gives no solutions. And you still leave feeling liberated. La croce Honningflod-Dervinskij Giovanni Montanaro (Marsilio Editori, € 16,50) Giovanni Montanaro was born in 1983. Born in 1983 in Venice, to be precise. Law student, he has written the theatre piece “La croce Honninfjord”, his first novel, he was a finalist for the literary prize Premio Calvino of 2006. The short biography of the author is fundamental to understand his first book, an intelligent complex web of minutiae, moving on temporal axis between 883 and 1988. Different stories, by time and place, which revolve around o single piece of music, the key to a reality which is built with special precision and attention by Montanaro. A mix of genres and feelings, Montanaro’s first book has its greatest merit in daring, with words and narration, at a time when daring appears to be the greatest taboo… Migrazioni – Cosa accade in silenzio IN PERUGIA THE HOME OF WORLD WATER Italy is facing an important institutional challenge by hosting the world Unesco headquarters dealing with the protection of the planet’s fresh waters, rivers and drinking water. Diego Bunuel, grandson of the famous director Luis Bunuel and a celebrated journalist and TV correspondent, will take us to some of the most inaccessible parts of the world every Wednesday at 21.00 from 5 December on Nat Geo Adventure (channel 404 on Sky) with his programme “do not tell my mother that…”. Leaving behind stereotypes, Bunuel describes the effects of poverty and civil war and of progress, for example following UN envoys and soldiers in a special mission in Congo, or when he meets the double of Mullah Omar and visits the first night club in Kabul.
