					                                           RANI CALDERON
Rani Calderon was born in Israel where he studied piano with Prof. Pnina Salzman, conducting with Profs. Shalom
Ronli-Riklis, Noam Sheriff and Mendi Rodan, and music theory with Prof. Yitzhak Sadai. He studied at the two
Rubin Academies of Music in Tel Aviv and in Jerusalem. He also studied the various operatic styles with Mo Bruno
Rigacci (Florence), Mme Janine Reiss (Paris), Mr. Richard Trimborn (Munich), Ms. Rita Loving (Munich) and Mr.
Tom Christoff (Dresden).

In 2005 he replaced the famous Italian conductor Carlo Rizzi in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims at the Theatre de La
Monnaie in Brussels, which gave him an overnight success. He was consequently invited to conduct the Gala Concert
for the Belgian national day in the presence of the royal family.

Rani Calderon started his way as a professional conductor with Puccini's Suor Angelica at the Teatro Mancinelli in
Orvieto, where at the age of 23 he won the first prize in the "Spazio Musica" opera workshop, he then returned to the
same opera house in the following two years for Puccini's Il Tabarro and Madama Butterfly.

Rani Calderon later conducted Verdi's Macbeth (The Bucarest Radio Orchestra), Donizetti's L’elisir d'amore
(Buehnen Graz, Austria), Mozart's Don Giovanni (Volksoper, Vienna), Mozart's The Magic Flute and Verdi's
Rigoletto (The New Israeli Opera, Tel Aviv), Ponchielli's La Gioconda (Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège), Verdi's
Rigoletto (Opéra de Paris Sud, Paris), Le nozze di Figaro (Menorca, Spain). At the Teatro Municipal de Santiago
(Chile), where he is regularly invited he conducted Gluck's Orphée et Eurydice, Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, Puccini's
Gianni Schicchi with Leo Nucci, and Mozart's Don Giovanni. He conducted a new production of Il Trittico at the
New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, La vie parisienne at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, Puccini's Turandot (The
New Israeli Opera, Tel Aviv). At the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp he just conducted La Sonnambula at the Teatro
Municipal in Santiago del Chile Un Ballo in Maschera.
At the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Italy he conducted Meyerbeer's Semiramide in a world première integral in
modern times, which was also issued as a CD in Dynamic label which specializes in the repertoire.

As a symphonic conductor he has a wide and versatile repertoire ranging from early Classical works to the 20 th
Century. He has appeared recently with the Sofia Philharmonic, the Rishon Le-Zion Symphony Orchestra, the Ra-
anana Symphonette, the Ashdod Chamber Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfonica Principado de Asturias and the Orchestre

As a solo pianist he appeared in numerous recitals in Israel, where he played and explained a wide repertoire
including Beethoven's 32 Sonatas, 7 Chopin recitals (including all the Etudes and Preludes), as well as pieces by
Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. He also frequently leads concertos from the piano.

He is actually engaged in Andrea Chénier at the Opéra de Montecarlo.

Future engagements include: Tannhäuser, L’italiana in Algeri, Elektra, Ariadne auf Naxos and Boris Godunov at the
Teatro Municipal in Santiago del Cile, Gounod's Faust at the A.B.A.O. O.L.B.E. in Bilbao, Thaïs at the St. Etienne
Opera, Aida at the Théâtre Municipal de Avignon, Simon Boccanegra at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, Euryanthe
and Oberon at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. He will conduct symphonic concerts with the Orchestre Nationale
de l'Ile de France. He is also scheduled to play in a Schumann recital during the “Piano Passions” Festival in St.

Rani Calderon speaks fluently 7 languages: Hebrew, English, Italian, French, German, Russian and Spanish. He won
the America Israel scholarship for conductors as well as the scholarship of the Dean of Faculty of Arts at the Tel Aviv
February 2009
