   1. PROFILE OF THE PRESCHOOL – GENERAL INFORMATION
         PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY APPLIED
         WORK PROJECTS AT FOCUS:

The aim of the school is to give every child, in cooperation with the parents, a
purposeful existents and capability to develop into open, confident and
considerate adults.

Our profile is “Language and communication”, which is the foundation for
learning. If you can communicate, verbally or non-verbally, there is great
potential for handling all social contexts and to function empathetically. It is
potential for gaining influence and it will be easier to participate. At Bifrost
we let the children develop with the language, in the language and through the
language.

In our work against all forms of abusive treatment we have processed the
“values” of the school. They describe the values that children, pedagogues
and parents have united around as being important to create a safe and
respectful environment. At the Bifrost we want the children and the staff to
feel safe, be met with respect and be given responsibility. To achieve this we
will:
 Listen to each and respect the fact that we are different but all have the
       same value.
 Look after each other and make sure we include everyone.
 Be good friends and try to understand how others feel.
 Be honest, considerate and helpful.
 Solve conflicts by talking and listening to each other.
 Think about what we say and not use abusive language or swear words.
 Be careful about the premises, the inventory and other people’s
       belongings.
 To take responsibility for our actions if anything goes wrong.

When it comes to documenting the learning progress of a child we have chosen
to work with portfolio and IUP (eng. Individual Development Plan). Portfolio
means that we together with the child collect material, photos, interviews,
among other things, to document the child’s development and learning. The
portfolio folder will follow the child during their time with us.
We work with portfolios to:
 Make the children aware of their own development and learning.
 Increase the self-confidence and self-awareness of the children.
 Increase the cooperation between children – parents – teachers.

We want to give every single child the best possible capability for a rich and
versatile development. This is the goal with our IUPs.

We consider the portfolio to be backward looking and the IUP to be forward
looking. The portfolio and IUP are important parts of the progress report
sessions.

We work with themes to give the children a context for their learning. In
choosing the initial theme we consider that it should be suitable for all ages at
the school. The initial theme is meant to inspire and to run as a connecting
thought throughout the school year. In the theme are integrated all the
subjects i.e. art, movement, music, language, social development, maths,
natural science and social science. We think it is important to take the
opportunity to work across the science boundaries.

We are proud of our environment certification “Grön Flagg” (eng. Green Flag).
This is tangible evidence that we have an active attitude to working with the
environment in everyday life. Our school is surrounded by forests, mountains
and fields which give the children ample opportunity to experience nature,
among other places, in our very own school forest. At the department we
have an environmental committee where children and pedagogues work
together towards our environmental goals.
