ATOUT FRANCE, the France Tourism Development Agency

ATOUT FRANCE has been formed in June 2009 by the merger of Maison de la France, the promotion
agency for France as a tourism destination, and ODIT France, the tourism engineering agency.
ATOUT FRANCE includes national and local government authorities working in partnership with the
tourism industry and the major sectors of the French economy. A total of almost 1,300 members,
representative of the French tourism industry, rely on its expertise.

Its goals are:
to promote France as a tourist destination, providing information to the general public and services
        to tourism professionals.

To develop competitiveness in the tourism sector of the economy

To achieve these goals, ATOUT FRANCE has 3 main missions:
MARKETING AND PROMOTION: 2,000 marketing and promotion operations are run each year,
targeted at the general public, the press and travel trade based on a strategic and operational plan to
        promote the destination

TOURISM ENGINEERING AND STRATEGIC PLATFORM: The agency helps to stimulate
innovation and the quality of products by monitoring competition, analysing the economic situation
        and conducting market studies.

QUALITY: the agency is responsible for preparations to draw up a frame of reference for the
classification of tourist accommodation. It will also maintain a national register of travel companies
        and operators.

These different missions are performed through a network of 350 people working in 35 offices in 28
countries, a head office in Paris, together with branch offices in mainland France and its overseas territories.
The UK office employs 26 people providing its partners with a range of promotional activities such as travel
trade exhibitions, consumer travel shows, business events, media relations, events, communication and
advertising, publications, online promotion and market analysis.
http://uk.franceguide.com – ATOUT FRANCE’s website in the UK received 830,000 visitors in 2008.

FACTS AND FIGURES OF FRENCH TOURISM IN 2008

France maintains its 20-year leadership in tourism by remaining in first place before the United States and
Spain with nearly 78 450 000 visitors in 2008.

12.4% of the British tourists came to France in 2008. It is their main holiday destination, when they
go to more than one place.
18% of tourists in France are British. They are the first nationality to come to France.
Short breaks are their favorite holiday pattern in France. They stay an average of 6 nights in hotels
       mostly.
Stable or slightly up overall annual results are expected for French tourism in 2009.
