The EAA Council met at RIAS, 15 Rutland Square, Edinburgh.

5.0     ARCHITECTURE

5.1     EAA Awards

        •      Agreed that small projects threshold should remain at £250k
        •      Announcement of Awards to link to other chapters web sites and RIAS web

4.3     Edinburgh World Heritage

        •      It was noted that there is to be a new CEO in post during July. RB to contact
               EWH to arrange a meeting. KR and KL also agreed to attend the meeting.             RB

4.2     CEC Planning

        •      Letter sent to CEC requesting meeting. IL to coordinate                             IL

5.3   Reports on EAA / RIAS Committees/Task Groups

      •     Cross Party Group – No report from Jack Hugh.
      •     Practice Board – minutes of meetings to be attached.                               RB

      •     GL reported on the Sustainability Accreditation Group and will report further

5.5   Conservation Accreditation Task Group

      •     Continuing concerns raised regarding existence of the scheme

      •     Agreed that IL would undertake organisation of CPD, as part of her job
            description, under the guidance, and approval of Council. IL to prepare draft
            programme in 3 month blocks in advance                                              IL

5.7   150th Anniversary

THE 150 ANNIVERSARY OF THE EAA (1858 to 2008)

                                            th
   1. Create a publication to mark the 150 anniversary.
   2. The publication to be based on a selection of buildings over the life of the EAA. One building to be
      selected from each decade. Selection to be based, where possible, on previous award winners.
   3. Short listed selection for each decade to be put to public vote, if practicable, via website.
   4. Contributors to be invited to submit a short piece, 200 words or thereby, for selected buildings.
   5. Foreword or introduction to be by invited ‘ken speckle’ figure, historian or the like.
   6. Selected buildings could form an exhibition, temporary/travelling/public.
   7. Launch night party to be in ‘special’ venue.

THE 150 ANNIVERSARY OF THE EAA (1858 to 2008) – PUBLICATION OUTLINE AND CONTENT


   1. Introduction – brief resume of EAA history and explanation of publication. Map of geographical
      area required.

   2. Foreword - approximately 2000 words by a distinguished figure, possibly author Ian Rankin. A
      brief for the foreword needs to be prepared for issue. Possible alternative contributors to be
      considered? Allow 2 month lead in time for contribution

   3. Edinburgh’s Best - 15 Buildings - one for each decade from 1860s to 2000s. Buildings to be
      selected by public vote promoted by the Evening News. Vote to be by web link to section of EAA
      web site showing all 45 suggested building, 3 per decade. It is expected that each voter will select
      15 choices. Each selection will have a comments box for a short, voluntary contribution. Budget
      for we site costs to be established. Timescale for publicity and voting to be agreed, possibly 2
      weeks to set up.

   4. Each building to be professionally photographed (consider Keith Hunter? Or others? Budget to be
      established) Probably one main photograph and perhaps 2 details per page with name, architect
      and year. Each building will be accompanied by 200 words written by selected contributors to be
      chosen from a wide section of Scottish/Edinburgh culture. Selected comments from voters may
      also be included.

   5. All other short listed buildings – single image of each building, possibly 4 per page, with name,
      architect and year.

   6. List of contributors - Each contributing author will be asked to provide a 50 word biography and
      mug shot.

   7. List of contributors to the publication - EAA Council etc.

   8. Index??
