					WHAT IS VHS 2.0
VHS 2.0 is a set of tools based on iDRM that handle multimedia contents with special attention to
the aspects of privacy and confidentiality.

A typical use case is that of a home mediacenter, where an individual can protect his/her own audio
and video items, transforming them in a format protected according to the user’s real needs with:

    Simple password protection
    X509 certificate protection
    Permission to local play
    Permission to remote play
 Permission to remote play over the internet

Using VHS2.0 the each person can protect his/her own contents, and control their use by the others,
allowing to:

 Keep confidentiality over the recording belonging to his/her own “personal sphere”
 Create a copy of content accessible to him/her on-line or on-the-air, which is really
“private”, recreating in the digital world the right to the proper “private copy” that was
already guaranteed in the “analogue world”

VHS2.0 has two macro components:

    VHS2.0 Player
    VHS2.0 Creator

VHS2.0 Player is an End user Device (SAV) alternative to the native Chillout SAV. This is:

 Optimized to the needs of the private citizen
 Works on iDRM control point 1 protection point
 Offers a clear explanation of the metadata and license conditions
 Is not linked to the use of a single specific media player
 Can stream the decoded content on https to the actual player
 Allows the remote view on different hardware devices (e.g.: Iphone, Ipod, PSP,
       SmartPhone..)]
 Maintains player trust on the base of SSL certificates

VHS2.0 Player is installed on the mediacenter as a webservice, and is accessible by the https
protocol.

Different players, both software (Microsoft Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, VLC, QuickTime, Real) or
hardware (Sony PSP, Apple iPhone/iPod Touch, Nokia N800, Sony PS3, Microsoft X-box) can be
enabled to access VHS2.0 on the basis of different criteria: IP address, MAC address, X509
certificate, simple password.

The user player device, can access the VHS2.0 Player on the mediacenter using its native web
browser, list the available .DCF protected content and start to watch them giving the appropriate
security credential.
VHS2.0 Creator includes a different set of Chillout modules in order to create .dcf media file
playable by VHS2.0 player or by any other DMPF compatible player owning the appropriate
security credentials.

VHS2.0 Creator is the real recording part of the architecture and it is:

 Optimized to the needs of the private citizen for its personal media, we can compare it to a
“pgp” security software for the multimedia
 Works on iDRM control point 1 protection point
 Creates proper metadata and license conditions
 Is not linked to the use of a single specific media player
 Maintains the security credentials of the user and of its own enabled devices
 Can export security credentials to other services over the internet in order to allow selective
       player by remote systems

VHS2.0 Player is installed on the mediacenter as a webservice, and is accessible by the https
protocol in order to program and create the recording of different sources as TV/radio stations,
Internet streams/files, local inputs (camera, DV).

The schema of the DMP IDP v. 3.0 Chillout components used in VHS2.0 is the following:
