WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU ARRIVE:
When you arrive at the Ceremony site you want to go straight to the white Volunteer Check-In Tent. You will
then sign-in, collect your Volunteer T-shirt and be directed to your station. *Please note that you will receive
one t-shirt for the entire weekend. We will give you all the necessary instructions when you arrive. If you’re
volunteering for more than one shift Sunday you only need to check in once. Just be sure to tell the volunteer at
the Volunteer Check-In Tent. The tent is visible from the sidewalk and will have a large pink “Volunteer” sign.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring whatever will make you comfortable. There will be little storage available, so bring a small bag that you can
easily keep with you. There will be many people flowing in and out of the area during the day, so please do not
bring anything valuable as we cannot be held responsible for anything lost or stolen.

Snacks and water will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own snacks and water bottle to keep you going!
Pizza will be provided for volunteers at 11:30AM for lunch and will be available for both shifts.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Dress so that you are comfortable. This event will happen rain or shine but we want to assure you we’ll provide
the best possible care under any circumstances. Remember the weather in Charlotte can change at any time.
Layers, costumes, flair and pink are definitely encouraged! Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Do not bring
those favorite new shoes; the grass can be damp in the morning. Don’t forget a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Volunteers will work in groups to get each of our main set-up projects accomplished. Morning shift volunteers will
be helping set-up the site in anticipation of Closing Ceremony. Ceremony begins at 3:00PM and lasts for
approximately 30 minutes. Afternoon volunteers will assist before, during and after the Ceremony. You may be
helping with the following tasks: setting up tables and chairs, providing traffic direction to vehicles arriving at the
site; unloading and placing participant gear in assigned rows; cheering participants at the finish line; counting
Walkers as they arrive; distributing t-shirts, water and snacks to participants; aiding the Avon Walk Shop;
arranging participants into groups in preparation for Closing Ceremony; assisting staff with early registration;
breaking down the site and general clean-up and MORE! Please know that your role as a volunteer is crucial to
the event running smoothly and successfully regardless of where you are stationed! All volunteers are
encouraged to help with site breakdown after Closing Ceremony. The more people involved the faster it will get
finished.

From everyone at the Avon Foundation for Women, our deepest gratitude to everyone whose contribution helps
us to further our mission of advancing access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer.

To each and every Walker, Crew member, Volunteer, Donor, sponsor, supporter, beneficiary and friend: thank
you for saving lives.
