The Honorable Cliff Stearns
US House of Representatives
2370 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative Stearns,
Thank you for your continued service in the US Congress. I am a registered voter in your
District and came to your last town meeting in McIntosh to listen. I try to come to these
whenever you schedule them and I am the biker you usually see when you have these in
Marion County. I do not usually bother you during your town meeting presentation,
although I do usually try to shake your hand and say hello before you leave.
I am writing today to ask you to sign on as a co-sponsor HR 1076. Please vote in favor
of this legislation when it comes up for a vote.
HR 1076 is in regard to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
This is very important to me because it has provisions to prevent health insurance
discrimination against motorcyclists. I ride a motorcycle and have my health insurance
through my employer. We passed these same protections into law several years ago with
the original HIPAA legislation. Despite specific language in the original legislation to
keep it from being interpreted as permissible to discriminate by denying coverage to
people who ride motorcycles, the bureaucrats have unraveled it and created a loophole.
You can help fix this problem by signing on as a co-sponsor and voting for HR 1076.
Please do not allow employers and insurance companies to continue to have the ability to
discriminate against me for choosing to legally ride a motorcycle . Please sign on as a
co-sponsor to HR 1076. It is very important to me that you support and vote for this
‘HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act'.
Thank you very much for your consideration and I am hopeful to hear from you in
support of HR 1076. If you need more information, please have one of your staff contact
me at 352-591-0676. Any help in getting our US Senators from Florida to sign on as co-
sponsors to the companion S 616 in the Senate will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your continued service in the United States House of Representatives.
