Jefferson Parish Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement will have the additional
services of two building inspectors, two mechanical inspectors, two plumbing inspectors, two
electrical inspectors and two to four plan reviewers. These professional inspectors are in the
parish for at least six months to a year to lend a hand with the workload caused by Katrina.
Louis Savoye said,” that one of the most important benefits of the inspectors-on-loan is that it
will free up his Department’s staff to attend training required to learn the new, more stringent
building codes recently adopted by the parish.” Under a new state law, all code inspectors
must pass examinations and be certified in the International Building Codes.
