Coding, Reimbursement and Management of the Business Office This proven-effective one-day program brings business office managers up to speed in ways that generate revenue and reduce expenses. There is something of value for virtually every business office operation.
Focus on Prevention and Remediation
Part 2 - Using Management Communication to Improve Management Effectiveness*
Risk Management, Disaster Planning, and Sexual Harassment In one day you review and focus on areas that typically need attention because they are “preventive” in nature rather then of immediate urgency. Yet these issues must be attended to.
NHAs should make every effort to attend these programs. Why? Because, as some NHAs have put it, “Of course, I’ll never do the work of that department. But how can I mentor them, fairly evaluate their job performance and give them the resources they need to succeed if I don’t have this level of information!” For further information call 215-836-2383.
Part 3 - Mini-Symposium on Leadership*
• Practical analytical tools for improving communication effectiveness • Measuring effectiveness of meetings in your facility • Coaching, counseling and criticizing • Pros and cons of “What”, “Why” and “How” questions • Handling interruptions
Part 4 - (Handout) An approach to controlling your future

Introduction to Nursing Home Administration
The 120 Hour NHA Course
In order to become eligible to sit for the state licensure examination, many applicants need to complete a 120 hour course of continuing education that has been pre-approved specifically to meet that eligibility requirement. The Introduction to Nursing Home Administration course consists of 16 required programs of study which meet that 120 hour requirement. The complete 120 hour course, which starts on September 18, 2008 is scheduled to end on March 27, 2009. Each program is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. (Coffee and Danish ready at 7:30) and conclude by 4:45 p.m.. For a detailed description of requirements for becoming eligible to sit for the examination, contact the Pennsylvania Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, PO Box 2649, Harrisburg, PA 17120; telephone 717-783-7155 or your State Board in Delaware or New Jersey.
Note to Personal Care Administrators and Assisted Living Administrators: As the Rules and Regulations become clearly established, many of our seminar programs will be able to be used to meet your continuing education requirements. Note to Licensed NHAs: Since each of these programs can earn you 7.5 hours “001” credit, you are invited to attend any programs you might want for review purposes – or to attend with one or more of your administrators-to-be so you can have a shared experience as a basis for further discussions. Cost per program is $175. For further information call 215-836-2383.

Introduction to Nursing Home Administration is dedicated to the memory of Harry D. Karpeles, PhD. Dr. Karpeles saw the need for a program such as this several years before various states started to require one. In fact, the Pennsylvania requirement reflects nearly all of the original Introduction to Nursing Home Administration model. Following his “retirement”, Dr. Karpeles served as a member of our faculty for several years, demonstrating that even with limited abilities to perform Activities of Daily Living one can live an intellectually stimulating and generally productive life in a “self-provided”, non-institutional environment.
The Federal review materials are regularly updated to reflect the changing focus of the national exam; the State review materials also are regularly adjusted to reflect any changes in the Pennsylvania Rules and Regulations and the availability of materials on the web. During the program you review theoretical, philosophical and practical aspects of long term care administration as related to each part of the examination. Also, you take practice tests which contain sample questions of the type and style of those used in the exam. You receive practice tests which you can take home: one for the Federal Portion and one for the State Portion. (You may purchase additional Federal Portion practice exams while at the seminar.) Not only do you review specific test questions, but also you analyze thought processes behind the test items and their “correct” answers; this will be helpful in preparing you to answer a wide range of test questions.
