Spring Assembly Meeting which has a group rate. All reservations must be guaranteed by either a credit card or an advanced
deposit of the first night’s room and tax. The ABNS room rate is $175.00 single or double, plus tax. Call (888) 627-7213 to
make your room reservation. The Orange County/John Wayne Airport is the closest airport and the hotel provides a
complimentary shuttle service between airport/hotel.

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm ABNS President’s Reception – PLEASE NOTE: Local CNOs and Deans have been invited to
attend the President’s Reception so that you can interact with them to promote nursing
certification, in general, and your specialty, in particular. We will be providing our guests with a
folder of information and would be pleased to include one piece of promotional literature about
your certification program in folders. If you are interested in participating, please send 75 pieces
to the ABNS office to be received no later than February 15, 2010 in order for your literature to
be included. ABNS is pleased to offer this new event as a way to reach out to local leaders about
the value of nursing certification.

*Members of the ABSNC (formerly ABNS Accreditation Council) will answer questions regarding the
application process for seeking accreditation of examination programs. Organizations in the process of
preparing an application are invited to bring materials to this meeting for feedback. Tips on preparing the
accreditation application materials will be provided. Sample applications will be available. Information about
submitting accreditation applications electronically will be provided.
A detailed meeting agenda will be sent to all participants prior to the Assembly Meeting!

Using Simulations to Measure Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Nurse Sensitive Quality Indicators
Round Table Discussions:
o Advanced Practice –Those organizations with APRN programs will discuss the role ABNS should play
to support advanced practice within the larger nursing context and discuss the major issues regarding
advanced practice.
o Continued Competence/Recertification –The NBCRNA/NOCA national study findings will be
reviewed and participants will have the opportunity to identify specific issues and concerns related to
continued competence.
o Adding Certificate Programs to your Certification Repertoire – Participants will discuss the
definition of certificate programs, pros and cons, how to communicate the difference between a certificate
program and national certification program to stakeholders, and other issues.
o The Certification Value Lever – Participants will discuss marketing the value of certification to
employers and the publics – what to tell them and what ABNS can do to promote certification to these
audiences.
o Board Development – Facilitators will describe using a competency based model for selecting board
members and participants will discuss strategies for supporting the public member.
o Certification 101: Ask the Experts – For participants new to certification, experts will answer your
questions on a variety of foundational certification issues.
o Data Collection for Decision-making and Strategic Planning – Strategies for data collection will be
provided as well as answering your questions about sample size, tool development and other related
topics.
