Word Processing: Contents & Index
Exercise: Creating an Index
The following words must be placed in an index at the end of the document:
Codec
Interframe
Intraframe
Lossy
MPEG
Before the index can be generated, each word to be indexed must be marked
for entry. To do this for the word interframe:
1. Find an instance of the word interframe in the document, and highlight
the word.
2. Choose Insert >Index and Tables.
3. In the dialogue box, make sure the Index tab is selected, choose Mark
Entry, then select Mark all and click OK, then click OK again.
4. This will mark each instance of the word for entry in the index. At the
same time, the paragraph and field codes will be shown. You can
leave these on or turn them off by clicking the Show/Hide codes
button.
Repeat this process for each of the words on the list.
When each word is marked for entry, the actual index can be generated.
Place the insertion point at the end of the document.
Choose Insert > Index and Tables, and with the Index tab selected, click OK.
You may wish to insert a page break between the body of the document and
the index.
