Illinois Public Library Statistics
Introduction
Fiscal Year 2000-01

Illinois Public Library Statistics: Fiscal Year 2000-01 presents a statistical view of Illinois public libraries
during the 2000-01 fiscal year. The information is derived from the data provided electronically by
librarians and library directors on the 2000-01 Illinois Public Library Annual Report.

The four main sections of the Illinois Public Library Statistics: Fiscal Year 2000-01 are:
        Section 1: Statewide Statistical Analysis
The Statewide Statistical Analysis provides a statistical overview of public libraries in
        Illinois.
        Section 2: Statistical Tables
The statistical tables are presented in three ways. The first lists each public library by
location in the eight tables. The second groups the public libraries by the size of
population served and presents the eight statistical tables for each of the population
groups. The third groups the public libraries by library system and presents the eight
statistical tables for each of the library systems.
        Section 3: Management Profiles
A Management Profile is included for each public library in Illinois listed by location and
        grouped by library system.
Section 4: Library Personnel: Hourly Wage Reports
The Hourly Wage Reports shows the hourly wage statistics for Illinois public librarians
        and other library staff.

For the last two decades the Library Research Center has compiled and published public library statistical
data for the Illinois State Library. Many people contributed to this work. Illinois State Library Director,
Jean Wilkins and other ISL personnel including Tina Hubert and Patricia Norris have given guidance and
direction for the project.

Throughout the fiscal year many Library Research Center staff worked diligently and as a team to
complete this project. I would like to thank Leigh Estabrook , Director of the Library Research Center, for
her leadership and commitment to this project. Many hours were spent in consultation with the Assistant
Director of the Library Research Center, Edward Lakner who oversaw all facets of his project and
provided advise and guidance throughout the year. Production of the statistical tables and other
technical tasks were completed by Garret Gengler, Research Programmer.
