Points to write about –

What we find out in the poems about the setting, the worlds they come from. One is rich
and luxurious. The other?

In each case who is the man addressing in the poem.

Their attitudes towards the women -Both men are possessive, but in different ways.
How does this manifest.

Both are passionate and want to ‘own’ the women.

How does each man describe the woman in the poem – what can we tell about his
character and his emotions from his description of her.

Porphyria’s lover is very emotional and passionate – describe, explain, quotations - how
does this lead to her death.

How emotional is the Duke? Describe in detail again. How does this lead to the death of
the Duchess.

One death is clearly described, one is more ambiguous.
Is either death justified?

What does each man do after the woman is killed.
Different reactions – describe and explain.
What do these differing reactions tell us about their states of mind, their guilt..

Describe the ending of each poem


The last paragraph should refer back to the title of the essay and form the conclusion.
