					     At the ANNUAL TOWN MEETING of the BRIDPORT TOWN COUNCIL
     held in the Town Hall, Bridport on Thursday 25 May 2006 at 7.00 p.m.

     PRESENT      Cllr   Miss S.A. Brown - Town Mayor

     The Town Mayor’s Chaplain, Canon Reverend Trevor N. Stubbs, opened the
     meeting with prayer.

1.   APOLOGIES

     Apologies for absence were received from Cllrs: A.L.G. Harrison, R.H. Nicholls
     and D.R. Tett.

2.   ELECTION OF THE TOWN MAYOR (CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL)

     It was moved by Cllr C.M. Ray, seconded by Cllr Mrs G.L. Fifield and unanimously
     RESOLVED: that Cllr G.J. Ackerman be elected Town Mayor and Chairman of the
     Council for the ensuing municipal year 2006 / 2007.

     The Town Mayor was thereupon invested with the robe and chain of office.

     Cllr G.J. Ackerman read aloud and signed the declaration of acceptance of office
     and took the Chair. He returned thanks for his election and proposed a vote of
     thanks to the retiring Mayor.

3.   ELECTION OF THE DEPUTY TOWN MAYOR (VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE
     COUNCIL)

     It was moved by Cllr Mrs C.A. Murless, seconded by Cllr R.J. Stoodley and
     unanimously RESOLVED: that Cllr Ms F.K. McKenzie be elected Deputy Town
     Mayor and Vice-Chairman of the Council for the ensuing municipal year
     2006 / 2007.

     She read aloud and signed the declaration of acceptance of office and returned
     thanks for her election.

4.   ELECTION OF THE LEADER OF THE COUNCIL

     It was moved by Cllr C.M. Ray, seconded by Cllr Mrs G.L. Fifield and unanimously
     RESOLVED: that Cllr C.D. Wild be elected Leader of the Council for the ensuing
     municipal year 2006 / 2007.

     He read aloud and signed the declaration of acceptance of office and returned
     thanks for his election.

5.   APPOINTMENT OF TOWN MAYOR’S CHAPLAIN

     The Town Mayor gave notice of the appointment of Reverend Trevor N. Stubbs as
     his Chaplain for the ensuing year.

6.   CIVIC SERVICE 2006

     The Town Mayor invited Councillors and the people of Bridport to attend Divine
     Service with him at St Mary’s Church at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday 16 July 2006.

7.   APPOINTMENT OF TOWN MAYOR’S PARADE COMMANDER

     The Town Mayor advised the Council that her Parade Commander for Civic Events
     in 2006 / 2007 will be R. Vivian May, Esq.

8.   ANNOUNCEMENTS

     The Town Mayor announced that: -

     (a) the historic pleasure vessel Balmoral would be visiting Bridport Harbour at 9.00
         am. on Thursday 1 June 2006.

     (b) this was last meeting the Town Surveyor, Bernard Paull would be in attendance
         as he is now retiring. He had served the Town Council well for over 9 years and
         without doubt would be a very hard act to follow. The town council was grateful
         for his endeavours and thanked him for the significant contribution he has made.

        On behalf of the town councillors, the Town Mayor then presented the Town
        Surveyor with a retirement gift, which they had contributed to themselves.

        Cllr Miss S.A. Brown paid a warm tribute to Bernard Paull and echoed the thanks
        and appreciation of the town councillors.

        The Town Clerk read out an e-mail received from Cllr D.R. Tett who although
        was away on holiday wanted to add his thanks to the work of Bernard Paull.

        In conclusion the Town Council wished the Town Surveyor a long and happy
        retirement.

9.    MINUTES

      The minutes of the meeting held on 25 April 2006 were confirmed as a correct
      record and signed by the chairman.

10.   STANDING ORDER 14 (b)

      There were no questions pursuant to standing order 14 (b).

11.   CONSTITUTION OF COMMITTEES

      The minutes of the meeting of the Selection Committee held at Mountfield on
      16 May 2006 were presented.

      RESOLVED: that the minutes of the meeting of the Selection Committee held at
      Mountfield on 16 May 2006 be received and adopted.




      The meeting closed at 7.35 p.m.




      The next meeting of the Bridport Town Council will held on 25 July 2006
