Student Tracking The Student Tracking report provides a detailed summary of the activity of students in the course. This report provides information on each individual student helping you gauge the student's participation in different activities in the course as well as the items, tools and pages the student visits most frequently. 1. Click on the Tracking link in the Instructor Tools menu. The Tracking screen displays as seen in figure 6-20. Figure 6-20 2. Select the Student Tracking radio button beneath the Select a Report Type heading. 3. Select a Start date for the report from the month, day, year, hour, minute and AM or PM drop-down menu options. 4. Select an End date for the report from the month, day, year, hour, minute and AM or PM drop-down menu options. 5. Click on the Run Report button. The Student Tracking Report screen displays as seen in figure 6-21. Figure 6-21 The student tracking report lists student names, user names, first access, last access, number of sessions and the total time spent as seen in figure 6-21 on the previous page. Figure 6-22 Scroll to the right of the screen as seen in figure 6-22 and you will see the activity for the student in the mail tool, discussion tool, calendar tool and the chat tool. Figure 6-23 In figure 6-23 the assessments, assignments, web links, content folders, files and the media library tracking data is displayed for each student. To access an individual student’s tracking report you will need to click on the student's name. 6. Click on a student’s hyperlinked name. The Individual Student Tracking Report displays as seen in figure 6-24. Figure 6-24 In figure 6-24 on the previous page, the individual student tracking report displays for Guy Mitchell. The student's sessions are listed along with first and last dates accessed and total time spent during each session. We also see the activities for this student in discussions. Figure 6-25 In figure 6-25 Chat, Assessment and Assignments activity is displayed for the selected student. Figure 6-26 In figure 6-26 information is provided about which Web Links, Content Folders, Files and Media Library collections the student has accessed. You will notice in the tables seen in figure 6-24 on the previous page, 6-25 and 6-26 that at the bottom of each column the totals are hyperlinked. When you click on these totals you will access more information about that particular tool or item. Note: When you access detailed information for a column by clicking on a total, the tracking details are displayed and there is an OK button for each screen. When you click on the OK button it will take you back to the main tracking screen and not to the previous report. Figure 6-27 When the instructor selects the began or finished totals the tracking screen seen in figure 6-27 displays giving the event time, tool, action, item and time spent. It also list exactly which items the student has accessed. Figure 6-28 When accessing the total for the Assignments Read column you will see the tracking detail displayed in figure 6-28. It tells you when the student has accessed the assignment tool, when they read the assignment and how much time they spent. It lists the event time, tool, action, item and time spent. Figure 6-30 When an instructor accesses the total of the Files Viewed column, the screen seen in figure 6-30 displays. The following details are listed: event time, tool, action, item and time spent. Figure 6-31 When the instructor accesses the total for the Web Links column, the screen seen in figure 6-31 displays. The following details are listed: event time, tool, action, item and time spent. Figure 6-32 When the instructor accesses the total of the Media Library column the screen seen in figure 6-32 (on the previous page) displays. The media library collections are listed along with the time spent on each item. The report lists the event time, tool, action, item and time spent in the collection the student viewed. 7. Click on the OK button. The Tracking screen displays.
