Overview of the department I (i) Aims of the department. To develop the knowledge nd understanding of our pupils in British, European and World History, by meeting the requirements of the national curriculum. To develop the pupils ability to deal with source material and mature valid judgement. To explore links between history and other subjects, eg: hence providing a broad education. To foster the development of personal identity. To understand and increase and develop the ideas of our society, eg: toleration of a wide range of opinion, hence assisting the promotion of an atmosphere where pupils can feel comfortable with their own ideas. To enable each child to reach their potential as in the whole school ethos. To promote the aims and objectives of the school. The subject supports the school aims “In holiness and learning” especially with regard by providing moral links within the subject framework. I (ii) Staffing structure of the History department. Miss P. Sood Head of Department. Joined St Bonaventures School as Head of Department in September 2004. Responsibilites include overall charge of the life and work of the department. 13 periods of History and 4 of politics, Ms V. Qurrey Joined St Bonaventures School as Head of Year in September 2000. She is currently Head of Year 10. 12 periods of History. Mr D. Ansu Joined St Bonaventures School in September 2003 on the Overseas Teacher Programme. He teaches 9 periods of History. Miss S. Cissel Joined St Bonaventures School in September 2004 as a NQT for History and English. She teaches 9 periods of History. Mr S.Foster Joined St Bonaventures School s Headteacher in September 2003. He teaches 2 periods of History. Mr D. Bastien Joined St Bonaventures School P.E. department in September 1999 and is currently Head of P.E. He teaches 1 period of History. Ms. N. Tague. Joined St Bonaventures School SEN Department in Septmeber 2003. She teaches 1 period of History. I (iii) Analysis of Curriculum History: Time Allocation Year 7: one hour per week. 1 x single. Year 8: one hour per week. 1 x single. Year 9 : two hours per week. 2 x single. Year 10: two hours per week. Two doubles. Year 11: two hours per week. One class has a double lesson and the other two singles. Year 12: five hours per week – one double and three singles. Year 13: five hours per week – two doubles and one single. In year 7 there are 7 classes, which have one lesson of History per week. These are set into BHW and ACFG. Mr Ansu: 3 lessons. Miss Cissell: 3 lessons. Ms Tague: 1 lesson. In Year 8 there are 7 classes, which have one lesson of History per week. These are set in ACFG and BHW. Miss Sood: 2 lessons Mr Ansu: 2 lessons Miss Cissel: 2 lesson Mr Bastian: 1 lesson In Year 9 there are 7 classes which have two lessons of history per week. Miss Sood: 4 lessons Mr Ansu: 4 lessons Miss Cissel: 4 lessons Mr Foster: 2 lessons. In Year 10 there are two classes. Ability is setted. Miss Sood – 10 Set 2 Ms Qurrey – 10 Set 1 In Year 11 there are two classes of mixed ability. Both are taught by Ms Qurrey. In Year 12 there are two classes of History; one at St Angelas and one at St Bonaventures. Miss Sood teaches 3 lessons and Ms Qurrey teaches 2 lessons. In Year 13 there are two classes of History, one at St Angelas and one at St Bonaventures. Miss Sood teaches 1 lesson and Ms Qurrey teaches 4 lessons. I (iv) Organisation of cover work: Cover work for absent staff is arranged by the staff concerned. However, if staff are unable to do so the Head of Department takes responsibility. Cover for staff is arranged by Mr Christie. I (v) Organisation of learning: Pupils can opt for History at key stage 4 and then later for AS level. If successful completion of AS is achieved then progression onto the A2 can be made.
