He’s here!!! Our new arrival was born today, Friday February 25, 2005, at 0646. He weighs 6 lbs. 10 oz. and is 19 in. long. He has a full head of hair and looks a lot like Joshua did. We have already taken several pictures and as soon as I get them into the computer, we will post them on the web. Nicholas’s due date was determined to be March 4, 2005. At Jen’s last doctor visit (39 weeks), everything appears to be going along just fine. Judging from amniotic fluid measurements, they estimated Nicholas’s weight to be about 6 lbs. 8 oz. Pretty educated guess huh? Jen started having recurring contractions around 8pm on Thursday night while watching Survivor. They were at about 5-10 minute intervals and the pain was increasing with each contraction. Around 11pm the contractions started coming about every 4 min. 10 sec. and the pain was still increasing. Around 0100 on Friday morning we finally decided to take Jen to the hospital due more than anything to the pain. This was because everyone once in a while she was still having an odd timed contraction thrown in like 10-15 minutes apart. So we didn’t think she was really ready to deliver. At about 0230 the doctor did an assessment and determined Jen to be at about 6 cm and said to admit her and call Anesthesia because Jen in was in a lot of pain. The Anesthesiologist came in and gave Jennifer her drugs and boy did that ever make her happy. She was having deep back labor pains and the medicine made it almost all go away. After that she started having contractions about every three minutes. At a little before 0600 the doctor came in and examined Jennifer and said that she was at about 8 cm and coming along just fine. She would be back in to check on Jen in about 2 hrs. About 0625 Jen told me that she was having lower back pressure and to go to the nurse. I went and got Jen’s nurse Shea and told her. She paged the doctor for us. The nurse came in followed by the doctor and did another examination. Nicholas’s head was about 2-3 inches in and she said “Yep she’s ready.” She didn’t realize how ready Jen was. She told Jen to see if she could push. Jen gave one push and the head started to crown immediately. The doctor shouted “Stop pushing, just breathe.” But it was too late Nicholas was tired of being confined in such a tight spot. She quickly threw on gloves and gowns and before Jen even pushed again, Nicholas was coming out on his own. He was born at 0646 and his first APGAR score at one minute was 9/10 and then again at five minutes, 10/10. As soon as I get the pictures, I will post them (probably sometime tomorrow). We love you all and hope to see you soon with the new addition to the family.
