Moving objects to a different background.
The object to this exercise is to move the spaceman into Buchannan Street in
Glasgow.
Open your Photoshop Elements and go to File – Open.
Download the following images from
http://computing.jameswatt.ac.uk/staff/pcoleman
Spaceman.jpg and Glasgow.jpg and save them to you’re my pictures on the
local computer.
We are going to work on the spaceman first, so select the spaceman and
move/resize it to the main window. We now need to take the subject out of
the background.
On the tool bar at the
side of your window
click on the magic
wand tool.
Move the magic wand
tool over to the
spaceman and click on
the black area.
You will now get
‘marching ants’ which
means the background is now selected. But we want to select the spaceman.
Go to Select – Inverse on the menu bar at the top.
Now you will see that the spaceman alone has marching
ants around it. We are now going to copy this image, so go to Edit – Copy on
the menu bar. This has now copied the spaceman image. Highlight the
Glasgow image and go to Edit - Paste on the menu bar.
You will now see a big Spaceman in the middle of Buchannan Street (not
normal for a Saturday afternoon)
Select the Move Tool (the black arrow) from the tool bar
Click on your spaceman and move it into a suitable position.
To resize this image move the move tool over to a corner
Holding the left mouse button
down and dragging a corner
down or up will resize your
image.
