					     Child Abuse for Mandatory Reporters
Purpose: As a mandatory reporter you will be able to identify and report suspected child abuse. The
curriculum has been approved by the state Abuse Education Review Panel, approval #212.

    Define child abuse
    Recognize the indicators of child abuse
    Discuss the mandatory reporter classifications and responsibilities
    Describe the State of Iowa Assessment process, reporting procedure, and other legal aspects
    Identify the causes of child abuse, how to prevent child abuse and how to assist families

Audience: Professionals who have frequent contact with children, generally in one of six disciplines: Health,
Mental Health, Education, Law Enforcement, Child Care and Social Work.

Directions: Iowa Valley Continuing Education is located in the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Conference
Center at the south end of the Marshalltown Community College Campus just south of the intersection of
Highways 30 and 14. Take Highway 14 south to the second campus entrance (by the baseball diamonds), then
take the first left. IVCE is located at the southwest corner of the large building, door #9.
