JUNIOR EDITION INTRODUCTION TO COURSE: Welcome to the 2006-2007 Digital Media Program at Greene County Career Center. My name is Jeff Covey and I am the instructor of this program. I have worked 13 years in the industry and am very excited to share these experiences with you. I have worked in production (lighting, video and audio engineering) and installation (home theatre, corporate boardroom design, and live concert sound). I have worked with many entertainers, corporations and politicians throughout the years. I received my Associates Degree from Southern Ohio College in 1990 and my Bachelors Degree from Ohio University in 1993. I am currently enrolled at Wright State University in pursuit of my Master’s Degree in Career Technical Education. The primary goal of this course is to introduce students to the many avenues of employment in the Digital Media environment. I will provide the students with introductory skills needed to enter the industry or secondary education. In addition, I will help the students focus on their career path. Job-Seeking Skills Lifelong Learning Work Ethics Career Development Decision Making Balancing and Priorities Technology Job Retention SAFETY PROCEDURES: Understanding industry safety hazards in the studio/lab and classrooms and making every effort to follow the safety guidelines is a critical responsibility of each and every student in the Digital Media Program. Using common sense and following all safety rules will help ensure a safe environment for all. Students will be instructed on personal safety and safety for others in work environment, proper use of equipment, cable placement and maintaining of work areas according to OSHA and NIOSH requirements. All students will follow these requirements always. Deviation from any of these requirements will result in the student being removed from that lab activity and any participation points available during that time. There will not be a second deviation. These safety requirements will be presented during first week of class and during every new section introduction. The following are some general rules of safety and procedures that students will be responsible for at all times. A. Conduct and Procedures a. No Horseplay b. Walk, Don’t Run c. Remain Alert d. Request Teacher Approval or Instruction if Unsure e. Be Considerate of the Safety of Others f. Do Not Throw Objects g. Adhere to All Posted Lab and Classroom Rules B. Tools, Equipment and Materials a. Do Not Use Equipment Until You Have Been Trained b. Do Not Lean on Equipment c. Check for Frayed Wires Before Plugging in Any Equipment d. Request Teacher Approval for Use of Any Equipment C. Studio / Lab Environment and Housekeeping a. Floors Should Be Kept Cleaned b. No Personal Items in Walkways c. All Spills Should Be Cleaned up Immediately d. Know Location of Exits in Case of Fire e. Know Procedures in Case of Tornado D. First Aid a. Report All Injuries, No Matter How Small, to the Instructor IMMEDIATELY b. In Case of Serious Injury to the Instructor, the Student Supervisor Will Pick up the Emergency / Class Phone and Notify the School Secretary of: 1. Location 2. Injured Party’s Name 3. Name of Caller 4. Nature of Injury IN CASE OF FIRE At the Sound of the Alarm the Student Should Turn off Lights and Close All Doors. Turn Right and Go Toward Back Parking Lot and Assemble as a Group. Wait for Instruction and the Instructor Will Take Attendance. Remain in Designated Spot until Instructor Gives the Signal to Return to Class. IN CASE OF SEVERE WEATHER At the Sound of the Severe Weather Warning, Remain in Classroom Because This Room Is Designated a Shelter Area. Remain in Assumed Position until the Signal Is Given to Return to Normalcy by the Instructor. STUDENT EVALUATION: Classroom Work and Performance Tests / Quizzes Practice of Procedures Assignment Folders and Homework Creative Ideas Quality of Work / Progression Daily Employability / Attendance 60% 20% 20% *Homework Will Not Be Accepted Late Unless Arranged Beforehand. **To Be Awarded for Classroom Work, the Student Must Pass All Tests with At Least 85% Accuracy with the Exception of the Safety Test, Which Must Be Passed with 100% Accuracy. GRADING SCALE 90 80 70 60 50 – – – – – 100% 90% 80% 70% 60% A B C D F PROGRAM RULES AND REGULATIONS: 1. Each Student Will Participate in Class. 2. Each Student Will Refrain from Unnecessary Speaking. 3. Computers Will Be Used for Class Work Only. No Games, Music, or E-Mailing During Class Time. 4. Class Time Is Not to Be Used for Class to Complete Assignments for Other Teachers. 5. Raise Your Hand to Participate in Any Way. 6. Listen and Follow Instructions. 7. Do Not Remove Material and / or Equipment from the Studio / Lab without Approval. 8. Treat Others and the Instructor with Respect. 9. OBEY ALL SAFETY RULES. If a Student Chooses to Break Any Rule, Except 9: 1st Consequence – WARNING 2nd Consequence – Loss of Participation Grade for the Day 3rd Consequence – 30 – Minute Detention Before or After School and Phone Call Home th 4 and Final Consequence – Office Referral Severe Clause – Removal from Class If a Student Chooses to Break Rule 9, That Student Is Automatically Removed from Studio / Lab for the Day, Resulting in Loss of Participation Grade for the Day. *This Is Packet 1 of 4.
