ADACOL@wilsonsd.org Prerequisite: Introduction to Web 2.0 Blogs – Web log or weblog Book discussions Responses to website activity Real-time discussions in writing Peer-editing of comments, blog posts, etc. Wikis – Collection of ideas from many different people that have a common interest Show students’ work online (remember to remove names or assign a number) Collaborative projects – all students can edit, add, etc. http://pbwiki.com/education.wiki for suggestions RSS feeds – These are a tool to connect people interested in specific websites Stay up to date on technology news and trends, surf smarter Link to your students’ MySpace pages, blogs, etc. to know them and what they’re into MySpace and Facebook may be blocked, but RSS feeds probably aren’t. Link to library homepage so you know when new resources are available Podcasting – Instead of a book report, have your students create 1 minute book reviews, critiques, and/or recommendations. Create “advertisements” or radio announcements for school programs, clubs, upcoming projects, etc. Tagging – Assigning a word or words to an online object Social bookmarking – http://del.icio.us/ (or the user-friendly Magnolia http://ma.gnolia.com/) Make your own list of bookmarks for students to use and navigate through Easy way to supervise/control students’ Internet use Teach searching strategies Students create own bookmark lists, review/critique each others

Other collaborative tools Meebo – Instant messaging ON your browser, “widget” for your website is at http://www.meebome.com After-school homework help Parent questions, online open house Animoto – Online video creation from images Create “ads” for projects, book reports (limited to 30 second “shorts” = free) Voo2do – online to-do lists for EVERYTHING, http://www.voo2do.com Keeping track of students’ progress on projects and deadlines, especially with group projects Keep track of your own projects, deadlines, NTI, POL, etc. GoogleDocs at Google Labs – http://labs.google.com/ “Graduates” are stable, good tools...all others are still in the experimental phase, so use at your own risk. Zoho – http://www.zoho.com – free, web-based version of Microsoft Office VERY collaborative Great for group projects You can have students give you access and track students’ (and group members’) progress and/or participation
