GOAL: Literacy

GOAL RATIONALE: Reading and writing continue to be areas of need for student growth and
development.

OBJECTIVE: To increase the number of students who are meeting or exceeding curriculum
expectations in reading and writing.
To resource purchase non-fiction reading materials for all levels including the upper intermediate
grades.
To develop a plan and implement writing strategies instruction for each grade.

GOAL: Numeracy – Mathematics Curriculum implementation.


GOAL RATIONALE: Item analysis (2005) on provincial FSA suggests concerns around simple computational
fluency.
Numeracy curriculum has been revised with Western Canada Protocol. Staff consensus is to implement the new
curriculum in the 2008-2009 school year.
Students need to become more aware of and more proficient in the use of Math vocabulary. We need to teach the
students to speak math.

OBJECTIVE: To increase the number of students meeting (or exceeding) expectations in numeracy.

 GOAL RATIONALE:
 Increase student opportunities to take responsibility for their actions and reactions. Research informs us that a
 positive and non-threatening school environment is contributing factor to improved student achievement.
