Now work in groups of three
One to give the commands, one to write down the commands and one to
follow the commands on paper

Each group will need one large sheet of paper a marker pen and a pen for
writing the instructions

Your task is to write the commands for drawing a house

Commands that you will find useful
Pen up (when you don’t want the pen to draw)
Pen down
Forward
Backward
Left ( and specify an angle)
Right ( specify an angle)

Resource sheet 6 could be used as introductory activities with the whole class to introduce following
commands. The activities could be done in a larger space for example the hall. The group activity would
require some large paper for the pupils to work on. In this group activity the pupils could help each other come
up with the commands for a house and take turns being the drawer (turtle) to see if they work.


If the department has access to an interactive whiteboard or projector the plenary could be using    logo      to
follow the instructions (adapting the units) to see if they draw a house.

Or ask your IT department who may have already obtained it because it is needed for KS3 ICT training

For each one start 1/3rd of the way down the page and over to left hand side

Resource sheet 6ii could be put onto an OHT or duplicated for pupils to work from. It is intended to follow
some whole class work on following instructions like that on resource sheet 6i. For pupils that have access to
ICT and LOGO there is sheet 6iii. Note the instructions will need altering slightly. If there is no access to
computers the pupils could work on paper with pencil and ruler. Again the plenary could be to look at results
either drawn on paper or on the screen if there is a facility to project LOGO.

This sheet could also be used as a homework sheet. I have included a sheet with LOGO commands that may be
useful for the pupils.
