                 Were / Where
                 There is a distinct difference in the sound of these two words although some people
                 still get confused about which to use. The best thing is to say the sentence quickly
                 and listen to the sound of the word.

                 Were
                 This rhymes with 'her'. Although when it is said quickly it sounds more like '-w-'.

                          They were watching television when we arrived.

                 Where
                 This rhymes with 'hair'.

                          Where are you going?
                          I didn't know where to look.
