									Job Description

Post:             Administrative Assistant to Women’s Network (Part time, 3 days a week)

Location:         Home based

Purpose and        To administer, in liaison with the President and the Connexional Committee for
Objectives:         Women's Network or whatever body succeeds this governance group all work relating
                    to Women’s Network.

                   To assist with maintaining the relationships between key stakeholders and the
                    movement, especially maintaining the links with the Connexional Team of the
                    Methodist Church.

Responsible to:        The President of Women's Network

Internal:              The Connexional officers for Women’s Network and Committee members
                       The Women's Network Project Officer (till Aug 2010)

External:              The Development and Personal staff of the Connexional Team
                       The Finance department of the Connexional Team
                       World Church Relationships staff of the Connexional Team
                       Joint Public Issues Team
                       Equality and Diversity Officer in the Connexional Team
                       Discipleship and Ministries Cluster in the Connexional Team
                       Women’s Network church, circuit and district officers
                       Colleagues in the wider Methodist Church who are involved in areas of work
                       relevant to the work of the Women's Network Movement.

Main Tasks:

   1. Respond to public enquiries by ‘phone, e-mail, and letter for advice and information, and process
      requests for resources.
   2. Establish and maintain filing systems, including the Women's Network database, regularly updating
   3. Provide administrative support to the President (see above) for Women's Network and its officers
      including manage diaries, draft letters and other communications, photocopy documents, make
      travel arrangements, make arrangements for visitors to Women's Network, order stationery and
      any other task that will ensure an efficient service to the movement, maintaining its high standards
      of communication.
   4. Service all meetings by booking venues, collating agenda papers, circulating agenda papers and
      minutes, take minutes and such other relevant tasks that will ensure the smooth running of these
      meetings some of which take place at the weekend.

   5. Provide administrative support for the preparation and production of printed and electronic
      resources (e.g., liaise with authors, liaise with publishers regarding copyright permissions)
   6. Co-ordinate mailings.
   7. Coordinate annual activities for Women's Network grant giving ( the movement disperses two
      different grants each year), voting for national officers, all administration for national and regional
      events, and liaising with Connexional Team Grants Officers.
   8. Maintain Women’s Network web pages.
   9. Any other duties as thought necessary by the President for Women's Network.

     Health and Safety:         The post holder will be subject to the Methodist Council’s Health and
                                Safety policy.

     Physical Conditions        The post holder will be responsible for their own working environment
                                which must conform to Health and Safety standards

     Remuneration:              £15, 889 per annum (to be pro-rata).

     Hours of Work:             Normally 21 hours per week worked, hours to be agreed with the President
                                of Women's Network. Due to the nature of this post, some flexibility in
                                working hours may be required, including some weekend working.
                                Payment for overtime is not given but time off in lieu will be arranged by

     Holiday Entitlement:       25 days pro rata
                                plus Bank Holidays and an extra three days at Christmas and New

     Sick Pay:                  Entitlement in accordance with the Methodist Council’s terms and
                                conditions of employment.

     Pension:                   There is a final salary pension scheme which employees are able to join,
                                subject to certain provisions and is contracted-in to the State Second
                                Pension Scheme. Contributions from employees are currently 8% of
                                pensionable salary.

     Probationary Period:       Appointments are made subject to the satisfactory completion of a
                                probationary period, of three months.
