                            Learning to Buy a
                            Computer


INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY
The girls will learn how to purchase a computer with a limited budget. There are several
resources below that will provide you with tips and tricks for purchasing computers.



WHAT YOU NEED
 Flyers from Newspapers of stores that sell computers

 Field Trips to Computer Stores




WHAT TO DO
Provide 3 (three) different quotes for 3 (three) different makes (HP, IBM, London
Drugs, Staples, Office Depot, Future Shop, “Joe’s Computer Store”) and models
(desktop or laptop) of computers. Your budget is $1,500. The following items must be
present – but size and speed will be up to you based on the budget. Also include a list
of the software that comes with each computer plus any additional items you were able
to purchase within your budget.

 Monitor

 Modem

 Network Card

 Besides a hard drive, 1 other storage devices

 Printer – optional, but a bonus!

column lists the different parts you learned about in the tutorial. The other columns
provide space for you to write the specific info regarding it (i.e.: 233 MHz Processor, 40
GB hard drive, CD-RW 48x, etc.)
