B. Personal Income Tax Intermediate Workshop presented by Allan Loiselle, Life Member
Do you or your staff need to “pump up” your taxation knowledge beyond the basics? If so, this session is for
you. Allan makes learning fun. You can always count on his sessions to provide you with knowledge and skills
that will make you a better practitioner. Topics to be covered will come from many areas such as capital gains
on stocks, bonds and mutual funds, income splitting for seniors, the disability credit and related credits and
deductions and, just because some people asked for it, a little more on Capital Cost Allowance.
The Speaker: Allan has presented a number of workshops to Association members on topics ranging from
working papers for financial statements and tax returns, basic and intermediate personal tax preparation,
Standards of Practice, how to protect yourself from errors and omissions claims and charges under the Third
Party Civil Penalty provisions of the Federal Income Tax Act.
SATURDAY MORNING SESSIONS – Select Option A or B
A. Back by Popular Demand – Round Table Discussions (The Children of Taxation)
It is quite amazing how much our family, and in particular our children, affect our tax preparation and planning.
The three round table discussion papers cover widely varied reflections as to how we are affected with our
children at various stages of their lives and ours. One paper deals with the various considerations that come into
play when your child is a minor. Paper two is when your children are teenagers, who have just reached the age
of majority. They see themselves as perpetually young, forever immortal and confidant in the fact that they will
always know more than the generation that went before them. Naturally, their lack of experience makes them
vulnerable to financial blunders. The final paper addresses the adult child who will still affect some of your tax
planning, but also becomes a greater part of your estate planning. The examination of all three life stages will
promote lively discussions and participants will acquire a new perspective on tax preparation and planning for
the family.
OR
B. ClientTrack Hands on Training – Get up and running on all features in just half a day!
Want to take control of your practice? Client Track offers the premier software solution for doing just that. At
the end of this detailed on workshop, you will be able to import client information, assign client tasks, manage
your T1 clients and the entire preparation process and set up automatic notification to remind your clients of

introduce you to the appointment scheduler and the highly anticipated time and billing features. We have two
sessions so you can send your staff to one and attend the other yourself.

SATURDAY MORNING SESSION – Continued
Is your ideal retirement destined to be just a dream or are you ready to make it a reality?
If you’re like most self-employed practitioners, your practice is one of your two most valuable assets you own;
the other being your home. If you’re like most Canadians, your RRSP assets are inadequate to fund the sort of
retirement you want. Will your practice produce the nest egg needed to make your dream retirement a reality?
Dream retirements don’t just happen. You need your own personal plan and maximizing the value of your
practice should be an integral part of that plan. Roche Financial Group has joined forces with popular
presenter, Tom McCallum, to show you how you can make it happen. This information packed session will
include valuing the practice, how to structure your business today to sell for maximum value at a
predetermined, guaranteed price when you are ready. Take the first step to your dream retirement
today.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION
Ontario‟s HST – As the Temptations might say “Get ready, „cause here (It) comes”
The Ontario Liberals may have sealed their political fate by introducing the Harmonized Sales Tax but it isn’t
going away anytime soon. Are you ready for the transition? Do you know what’s covered and what’s exempt?
Are you aware of the key dates before July 1, 2010? Are you ready to help your clients plan for and implement
the HST?
This is the biggest tax change since the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax, so we’ve enlisted the
services of an expert tax team from Vine Group, Chartered Accountants to get us all ready for it. Bob Ellison is
Director of Tax for Vine Group. He’s a former member of the Tax Team at a Big 4 Firm and has been providing
tax consulting to small business for more than 26 years. He will be accompanied by Mike Weber from the Audit
and Assurance team and Domenic Umbrello. Domenic is the Manager of Tax Services and Compliance Unit as
well as the Information Technology manager for Vine Group.
Vine Group is also a sponsor of our Tax Update event and will be here both days to explain all the value added
services they can provide you and your clients. A number of APA&TC members are already Strategic Alliance
Partners so stop by their booth to learn how you may benefit from something similar.
