JOB DETAILS Job title: NCRN Regional Lead for Training and Education Grade: Proposed 8a WTE: 1.0 Location: The post covers London and the South East and will be hosted by the South West London Cancer Research Network Professionally Pan London and South East Research Network Managers Accountable to: Group Responsible to: South West London Cancer Research Network Manager 2. NETWORK SUMMARY The National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) provides the NHS with the infrastructure to support cancer clinical trials in England. A principle aim of the NCRN is to develop a highly trained, professional clinical research workforce by delivering a coordinated, integrated and innovative programme of training and education accessible to all. Regional groups of networks exist within the NCRN to take forward local projects and initiatives. The Pan London and SE Regional Group covers the five London networks, Kent, Sussex, Central South Coast, Surrey, Thames Valley and Mount Vernon. 3. JOB SUMMARY The key responsibility of the Regional Training and Education (T&E) lead is to work in collaboration with the Pan London and South East Research Network Managers (RNMs) to develop and implement a strategy for training and education across London and the South East. In addition, the post holder will work closely with the national NCRN Training and Education lead to develop a regional network of trainers and training links to implement national and local T&E Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and to develop local training events. 4 KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 4.1 Lead in development of regional training strategy 4.1.1 Formulate long and short-term strategic plans for the provision and development of training across the region for staff of different disciplines and at all levels of an organisation. 4.1.2 Act as an expert resource for training links across the region, providing access to information about a broad range of training opportunities including conferences, study days, courses, seminars and e-learning programmes. 4.1.3 Develop local trainers and training links to design and deliver training programmes. 4.1.4 Produce quarterly newsletter for circulation to regional networks. 4.1.5 Direct and guide local network training links to integrate the NCRN Training and Education SOP with local and national training policies such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council Post Registration Education and Practice (PREP) and Individual Performance Review (IPR) schemes. 4.1.6 Act as an expert resource for local network training links to develop induction programmes for new staff based on up-to-date knowledge and an understanding of all relevant training material available for staff involved in cancer research. 4.1.7 Work closely with local training links to iimplement a variety of other training and support activities across the region including e-learning programmes, video/DVDs, secondments to other departments and networks, visits to identified clinical areas or appropriate regulatory meetings. 4.1.8 Initiate and develop mentorship programmes to assist research staff in local networks to prepare and present research papers at meetings and conferences. 4.2 Lead in development of network of trainers and training links for London and the South East. 4.2.1 Organise and facilitate regional meetings for network trainers and training links. Provide regular feedback to regional RNM group and national T&E team and ensure effective communication between the three groups. 4.2.2 Facilitate sharing of ideas and information between local networks and disseminate information via newsletters, study days and meetings. 4.2.3 Provide ongoing support to all training links within the region through a programme of training and support visits as required. 4.3 Involvement in development of national training strategy 4.3.1 Participate in the evaluation and review of the NCRN Training and Education SOP, and promote the SOP within the local region. 4.3.2 Promote and facilitate interaction and involvement between local network training links and the NCRN Training and Education team. 4.3.3 Review and audit training provision across the region in order to highlight examples of good practice and identify areas where training provision requires support. 4.3.4 Establish and maintain a central record of training programmes and initiatives that are active and under development within the region. 4.3.5 Contribute to reviews of the national T&E programme and SOP. 4.3.6 Advise on the commissioning of national training programmes and courses using specialist knowledge to prioritise areas of need 4.3.7 Collaborate at a national level with cancer research organisations (eg.Cancer Research UK, Experimental Cancer Medicines Centres) to develop and deliver national multidisciplinary study days and workshops for clinical research personnel. 4.4 Involvement in delivery and development of national training programme 4.4.1 Attend and contribute to relevant NCRN local and national meetings 4.4.2 Contribute to the development of the NCRN training strategy 4.4.3 Participate in the delivery of NCRN courses This Job description does not contain an exhaustive list of duties and you may be required to undertake additional responsibilities.
