DRAINS
PAVEMENTS: surface broken up outside 73
WEEDS IN GUTTERS
OVERHANGING BRANCHES: Briars and nettles encroach the narrow footpath
running from the back entrance to Knole from the Recreation Ground down to No 61.
These need to be cut back in mid-June.
TRAFFIC: Speeding: Cars do not observe 30 limit. May we again request small
reminder 30 limit signs similar to those on road leaving Otford towards Shoreham
(A225)? This is a narrow and winding road with pedestrians accessing Knole back-
gate on a bend where visibility is bad – but many drivers fail to realise that they are
still in a 30 limit zone.

Vine Court Road:
ROAD SURFACES:
ROAD SIGNS
LIGHTING
DRAINS
PAVEMENTS: damaged and uneven outside No 28 to Hollybush Road junction and
outside No.24. Also damaged and uneven outside the Vine Church. Entrance to
houses (Nos 21 in particular) : angle between road and pavement due to making up
road causes damage to pavement and the undersides of cars entering their drives –
residents have requested help, but have received none.
WEEDS IN GUTTERS: opposite Vine Church
OVERHANGING BRANCHES: tree outside Vine Church needs trimming to allow
pedestrians to walk past (they have to walk in road)
RECREATION GROUND: We note that the entrance from Holmesdale has been
much improved. The path alongside the tennis courts has numerous holes which
have not yet been patched up. During May and June the cut grass left on recreation
ground are very messy and unpleasant – the grass grows too long if cut only
fortnightly. Also the longer grass-cuttings blow into the verges of the footpath which
is very untidy and unsightly. There is graffiti obscuring the sign to the Bowls club in
the carpark (the same hand is the Hollybush graffiti artist?)
Lamp left on all day: HDL035. Some lamps not working.

                     Summary of Environmental Survey : June/July 05

NB: words in italics are items repeated from last year’s survey, ie items still unattended to.

ROAD SURFACES Generally good – slight unevenness acts as traffic calming.
Potholes needing repair in: Holmesdale: at entrance on right corner
                             Hollybush Lane outside No 5A
                             Holmesdale Road (at corner),
Serpentine Road outside No 2 (corner of repair)
Vine Court Road: pothole opposite church

ROAD SIGNS : 1) Avenue Road: ‘Give Way’ sign defaced at approach to Vine
Court Road, STOP or ‘GIVE WAY’ sign missing entirely from
          approach to Dartford Road.
          2)Hollybush Lane ‘Elderly people’ obscured by trees;
           3)Hollybush Lane ‘Two-way’ obscured by trees;
          4) *** Hollybush Lane approach to junction (Vine Court Rd) from
one-way(St John’s end): ‘Give Way’ sign on right is
obscured by trees and not on the sight-line of motorists
approaching this junction.. Please could this sign be
re-sited on the post carrying the No Entry sign where it
would be more visible to motorists approaching this
                        dangerous junction.
          5) Bayham Road entering from Hollybush end: Sign needed entering
from Hollybush Lane to warn of oncoming traffic on wrong side of
          road

STREET LIGHTING: lamps left on during day:
          Bayham Road: BAN010
          Holmesdale Road: HDL 038
Serpentine Road: SBF 001(for last two years on 24 hours), SBF 003

DRAINS :           Seal Hollow Road outside No.107 (flooding hazard) partially blocked;
Lansdowne Road Drain cover broken on first corner
Holmesdale road: gutter out of level prevents draining outside No. 16

PAVEMENT SURFACES In this area pavements are much used by pedestrians
walking to the station, Recreation Ground and shops etc. Some are uneven and
hazardous:
       1) Bayham Road uneven and damaged on left approaching Hollybush
junction – also outside Nos. 2,6 and 7.
***2) Hillside Road: very rough, uneven on both sides entering from Bayham
Road – hazardous to residents of all ages who resort to walking on the road –
this has been untended for several years in spite of letters from residents.
       3) Hollybush Lane: especially outside Nos 6-12;
       4) Holmesdale Road: very uneven outside Nos 3, 10-16;

88313058-1f96-49d5-9aa6-0d31a9175c3f.doc 7. Last printed 25/02/2010 17:12:00
         5) Knole Road: uneven and damaged outside Nos 6 & 2. Unswept and untidy
         opposite side.
         6) Park Lane: very weedy and uneven outside church, repaired section needs
         further repair.
         7) Serpentine Road: damaged kerbstones on left corner approach from
Bayham Road to the upper part of Serpentine Road.
         8) Seal Hollow Road: broken up outside No. 73
         9) Vine Court Road: damage outside No.28 to corner, very uneven and
hazardous outside Vine Church. Entrance to houses (No21 in particular)
pavement damage due to angle between road and pavement, this also damages
the undersides of cars crossing the pavement – residents have requested help,
         but have received none.

WEEDS IN GUTTERS AND CURBS: These are particularly bad in: Hillside,
Quaker Close, Holmesdale Road, Serpentine Road (both parts), Knole Road, Vine
Court Road opposite church

OVERHANGING BRANCHES: Seal Hollow Road: Briars and nettles encroach the
narrow footpath running from the back entrance to Knole from the Recreation Ground
down to No 61. These need to be cut back in mid-June. Vine Court Road: tree
outside Vine Church needs trimming to allow pedestrians to walk past (they have to
walk in road)

ROAD NAME PLATE missing: Hillside Road Bayham Road entrance, north side

TRAFFIC: Seal Hollow Road: speeding: Cars do not observe 30 limit. This is a
narrow and winding road with pedestrians accessing Knole back-gate on a bend where
visibility is bad – but many drivers fail to realise that they are still in a 30 limit zone.
May we again request a few small reminder ‘30’ limit signs similar to those on the
road leaving Otford towards Shoreham (A225)?

RECREATION GROUND: We note that the entrance from Holmesdale has been
much improved. The path alongside the tennis courts has numerous holes which
have not yet been patched up. Because grass mowing is happening less frequently,
the cut grass left on are longer, so are unsightly and messy while rotting down. Also
the longer grass-cuttings blow into the verges of the footpath which is very untidy and
unsightly.

SANDBINS (and salt?) have been verbally requested for use in ice and snow at hilly
junctions such as the corners of Holmesdale into Serpentine, Serpentine into Bayham
crossroad, Seal Hollow into Bayham and Serpentine. A request was made verbally
during the snow and acknowledged by you.
