Added Seconds

The advantage with using added seconds is that they can be usually used without clashing
with major and minor chords. This makes them particularly useful in an instrumental worship
group.

The following examples show the degrees of the scale using the IV/5 chord ending, with
added seconds.




The Cadd2/E can be a useful substitute for a first inversion major chord.




Added Fourths
Another variation is to add a fourth.
A useful way to delay a major chord at the end of a phrase as the forth in the scale drops to
