                        GENERAL TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
                          AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the information provided
in the Break Policies and Practices.

LOCATION

The post will be located in Sheringham

SALARY

The current salary for this post is £18,831 to £21,558 per annum, according to
qualifications/experience. Salaries are reviewed each year. Salaries are paid in twelve equal
instalments on, or just before, the last day of each month. Payment is by credit transfer.

HOURS OF WORK

The normal working week is thirty-eight hours covering a rota shift pattern. The Units must
provide seven-day week, 24-hour day staff cover and, therefore, staff have to be prepared to
work extra duties at times of staff illness and holidays, for which time off in lieu will be
given.

In residential units Senior, Deputy Manager and Manager level employees are required to
participate in an on-call system to ensure staff on duty have 24-hour access to support.

MEALS

Free meals are provided when on duty

LEAVE

The annual leave entitlement is thirty one days inclusive of Statutory and National Holidays.

PENSIONS

After three months' service, employees have the opportunity to join Break‟s pension scheme,
employees' contributions being a minimum of three percent of gross salary.

All new employees will be supplied with appropriate information.

NOTICE

The employment is subject to one months notice in writing on either side.

APPRAISAL

Appraisals are operated by Break.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

New entrants will be required to serve a probationary period of not less than six months.
During the probationary period, either party may terminate this employment by giving not
less than one week's notice, in writing.

CAR USER STATUS

Break residential units each have their own car. However, if post holders provide use of their
own car (subject to satisfactory insurance) a mileage allowance will be paid.

QUALIFICATIONS

All short-listed candidates are required to produce original certificates of relevant
qualifications at interviews.

ASYLUM AND IMMIGRATION ACT, 1996

All prospective employees will be required to produce one of the following documents to
verify their entitlement to work in this country.
         a.     P60
         b.     National Insurance Document / Card
         c.     A British Birth Certificate
         d.     Passport showing holder to be a British Citizen
         e.     An EEA Passport
         f.     A Certificate of Registration or Naturalisation as a British Citizen.
In additional all foreign nationals will be required to provide appropriate evidence of
eligibility to work in the U.K. i.e. a work permit / visa. A copy of this should be enclosed in
your application form and the original produced at the interview stage.

CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU INVESTIGATION [CRB]

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 Exceptions Order 1975 and the Rehabilitation of
Offenders Act 1974 Exceptions Amendments Order 1986 provides exception from the
general provision of Section 4.2 of the substantive Act for those employed in or seeking
employment connected with the provision of Social Services.

Applicants for the great majority of posts are not entitled to withhold information about
convictions which for other purposes are „spent‟ under the provisions of the Act and therefore
when applying for this post you must disclose any criminal convictions which you may have.
In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal
or disciplinary action by Break. Any information given will be completely confidential and

will be considered only in relation to any application for a position for which the order
applies.

Additionally it must be understood that in signing the application form you are agreeing that
in the event of your application for employment proving successful a check of CRB will be
undertaken if it is deemed appropriate for the post in question.

You will be required to provide further information before the check proceeds, which will be
requested of you after the provisional appointment decision is made.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CONSULTANCY SERVICE

The name of the successful candidates will be checked against relevant records held by the
Department of Health. This will include reference to the Department for Education “List 99”.

INFORMATION FROM OTHER AUTHORITIES

Records are maintained which include information from other authorities on employees about
whom there are serious concerns. Names of applicants are checked against these records.

It is also essential that the successful candidate possesses, or is prepared to undertake and
