Cumbria Adult Education Service “Freeing the Natural Voice" Wednesday 10 December 2008 10am -12noon at Castle Street Community Centre, Kendal All tutors of all subjects have the same issue - how to use their voices, appear confident and knowledgeable, and often talk for lengthy periods and avoid strain. In this session we shall look at ways of maintaining good vocal health, highlighting issues and suggesting strategies for helping the voice with the use of playful exercises and techniques. There will also be the opportunity to use the voice as a whole group with some singing - even if you have never sung before. The session will be led by David Burbidge who has led the Discover Your Voice sessions at the Brewery Arts Centre for almost 15 years, working with people who believe they can't sing but would like to. He has also worked with actors, managers, and others who use their voice professionally, either speaking or singing. He also directs Lakeland Voice (www.lakewlandvoice.co.uk) providing singing opportunities for all in South Lakeland with many organised events including Singing the Settle Carlisle Railway, a Folk Carols Festival, and the Singing Cyclists. He uses the natural environment of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales to help singers find a natural voice. He also leads a weekly community singing group in Kendal, Lakeland Voices, which makes singing accessible to all who want to sing even without any prior experience, which includes the popular summer singing walks, singing besides waterfalls in vast lakeland caverns and out on the fellside.
