Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Indian Prairie Community Unit
School District No. 204, DuPage and Will Counties, held at the Board of Education Offices in
the District Education Center on Monday, June 7, 2004.

 657.   Recognition           WVHS ―Cloud Nine‖ serenaded Dr. McKinzie with ―My Girl‖
                              and ―Earth Angel.‖

 658.   Call to Order         President Baldwin called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 659.   Roll Call             A roll call showed the following Board Members present: Kathi
                              Baldwin, Jim Box, Jeannette Clark, Jessica Johnson, Diane
                              Loosbrock, Mark Metzger, and Bruce Rodman.

        Also Present          Gail McKinzie, Howie Crouse, Doug Gallois, Nancy Pedersen,
                              Greg Anerino, Donna Crawford, Judy Hackett, Jeff Hunt, Mike
                              Pedersen, Patt Decker, Janet Buglio, Janel Buchner, and
                              approximately 350 students/staff/spectators/residents/members of
                              the media.

 660.   Board Salutes            The impressive awards ceremony at White Eagle Elementary
                                  School to honor those students receiving the ICTM awards.
                                 Performance by the high school and middle school marching
                                  bands in the Memorial Day parade
                                 Outgoing PTA officers and the IPPC executive committee,
                                  particularly Margie Sillery and Mary Reid-Vizintos
                                 Dave Nolte, head track coach at NVHS

                                            also received an award from the Office of Naval
                                            Research, Sara H., Matthew H., Neha J., Peter
                                            L., Blair M., Joseph N., Sean O., Michael P.,

                                            Best in Category Award in Material Science,
                                            Olivia S., David S., and Sherry Y. Jann Hawkins
                                            is Scullen’s sponsor.
                                           NVHS Boys’ Tennis—The team placed 11th in
                                            state, missing 10th place by only one point. The
                                            Wildcat tennis players are: Lawrence C., Andrew
                                            D., Kartheek K., Pratheek K., and Skipper P.
                                            The coach is Trydy Bennorth. Carol Bulfer and
                                            Joy Green are assistant coaches.
                                           WVHS Girls’ Track Team—the girls participated
                                            in the IHSA state track and field competition.
                                            Warrior state participants include: Megan B.,
                                            Leanne M., and Stephanie S. Jim Braun is the
                                            head coach. Craig Clendening, Khristyn Cooper,
                                            Tim Gerk, Sarah Larson and Tim Molloy are
                                            assistant track and field coaches.
                                           NVHS Girls’ Track Team—the girls participated
                                            in the IHSA state track and field competition.
                                            Wildcat state participants include: Jackie C.,

                                            Emily H., Marisa M., Amanda M., Dionne O.,
                                            Amanda P., Sarah R., Courtney R., and Erica S.
                                            Gretchen Parejko is the head girls’ track coach.
                                            Amy Cohen, Wayne Hartmann and Andy Voller
                                            are assistant coaches.
                                           WVHS Boys’ Track Team—the boys participated
                                            in the IHSA state track and field competition.
                                            The team placed 6th at state, the highest finish in
                                            the school’s history. The athletes who participated
                                            at state include: Mike B., who was recognized as
                                            All State and finished 2nd in the pole vault,
                                            Kevin B., Marcus C., Jack C., Tracey D., who
                                            was recognized as All State, John L., Arlen M.,
                                            Larry R., and Durrell W., who was not only
                                            recognized as All State, but earned the state
                                            championship title in the 800 meter run. Steve
                                            Luke is the head track coach. Austin Meyer, Chris
                                            Okapal, Dave Severance and Kevin Rafferty are
                                            his assistants.
                                           NVHS Boys’ Track Team—the Wildcats also had
                                            a good showing at state, receiving 4 medals at the
                                            podium, including taking third place in the 400
                                            meter relay. Athletes from NVHS include: Matt
                                            D., Nick D., Andrew H., Geoff H., Dave K., Nick
                                            M., Mike N., Matt R., Alex R., Alan S., Alvin S.,
                                            Zack S., Rich S., and Pat W. Dave Nolte is the
                                            head coach at NVHS.

                                 B. Staff
                                     Greg Fischer—Bruce Rodman read the proclamation
                                        to Greg Fischer. The Board of Education presented
                                        Greg with the framed proclamation and a gift. Greg
                                        thanked the Board of Education and the administration
                                        for the opportunities that he was presented in the
                                        district.
                                     Chuck Seidel—Jeannette Clark read the proclamation
                                        to Chuck Seidel. The Board of Education presented
                                        Chuck with the framed proclamation and a gift.
                                        Chuck told the Board a story of a particular
                                        Kindergarten student and the beginning of the
                                        inclusion program at Brookdale Elementary School.
                                        Chuck thanked the Board and the administration for
                                        the privilege of being a part of Indian Prairie 204.
                                     Marilyn Weaver—Diane Loosbrock read the
                                        proclamation to Marilyn Weaver. The Board of

                                          Education presented Marilyn with the framed
                                          proclamation and a gift. Marilyn thanked this Board
                                          of Education and their ancestors for their interests and
                                          decisions for what is always best for students.
                                         Greg Anerino—Jessica Johnson read the proclamation
                                          to Greg Anerino. The Board of Education presented
                                          Greg with the framed proclamation and a gift. Greg
                                          thanked the Board of Education and the
                                          Administration stating that it is the people that make a
                                          difference, the board’s decisions to balance the needs
                                          of the district with what is best for the child. Dr.
                                          McKinzie thanked Greg for his years as principal at
                                          White Eagle Elementary School, his outstanding work
                                          at the DEC on grants, and his leadership with the
                                          directors and principals.
                                         Doug Gallois—Jim Box read the proclamation to
                                          Doug Gallois. The Board of Education presented
                                          Doug with the framed proclamation and a gift. Mr.
                                          Gallois introduced his family and friends in the
                                          audience. Doug read a listing of ―the ten things I’ve
                                          always wanted to say‖ to Mark Metzger, Jim Box,
                                          Jessica Johnson, Kathi Baldwin, Jeannette Clark,
                                          Diane Loosbrock, Bruce Rodman, Dr. Gail McKinzie,
                                          Howie Crouse and everyone else. Dr. McKinzie
                                          thanked Doug for being a great business official and a
                                          great friend.

 662.   Public Comment       None

 663.   Approval of          It was moved by Ms. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Metzger that

                             meetings, as presented:

                                 A.   Executive Session Meeting – May 24, 2004
                                 B.   Finance/Facilities Committee Meeting – May 24, 2004
                                 C.   Policy Committee Meeting – May 24, 2004
                                 D.   Regular Meeting, Board of Education – May 24, 2004

                             The president declared the motion passed on a voice vote with all
                             Board Members responding aye.

 664.   Business &           It was moved by Mr. Rodman and seconded by Mr. Metzger that
        Financial Items      the Board of Education approves the Treasurer’s Report, Schedule
                             of Bills, and Other Fund Reports as presented and authorizes the
                             Treasurer to pay the bills.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote with
                             the following Board Members responding aye: Mr. Rodman, Mr.
                             Metzger, Ms. Baldwin, Mr. Box, Ms. Clark, Ms. Johnson, and
                             Ms. Loosbrock.

 665.   Old Business         None

 667.   Administrative       Howie Crouse stated it was his pleasure and the pleasure of Dr.
        Reports and          McKinzie to recommend David Worst as Principal of Gombert
        Recommendations      Elementary School, effective July 1, 2004. Dr. McKinzie

        Elementary School    It was moved by Mr. Metzger and seconded by Ms. Loosbrock
                             that the Board of Education approves the appointment of David
                             Worst, Principal of Gombert Elementary School, effective July 1,
                             2004.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote with
                             the following Board Members responding aye: Mr. Metzger, Ms.
                             Loosbrock, Ms. Baldwin, Mr. Rodman, Mr. Box, Ms. Johnson,
                             and Ms. Clark.

 668.   Administrative       Nancy Pedersen explained the ratification of the Indian Prairie
        Reports and          Classified Association (IPCA) contract.
        Recommendations
        —Indian Prairie      It was moved by Mr. Metzger and seconded by Mr. Box that the
        Classified           Board of Education approves the ratification of the Indian Prairie
        Association (IPCA)   Classified Association contract, as presented.

                             the following Board Members responding aye: Mr. Metzger, Mr.
                             Box, Ms. Baldwin, Ms. Clark, Mr. Rodman, Mr. Box, and Ms.

 669.   Administrative       Ms. Pedersen explained the increase for the non-bargaining

 670.   Administrative       Patt Decker explained the Patterson Elementary School lighting
        Reports and          bid.
        Recommendations
        – Patterson          It was moved by Mr. Box and seconded by Mr. Metzger that the
        Elementary School    Board of Education accepts the low qualified bid of All Tech
        Lighting Bid         Lighting in the amount of $38,287.07 to upgrade lighting at
                             Patterson Elementary School.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote with
                             the following Board Members responding aye: Mr. Box, Mr.
                             Metzger, Ms. Baldwin, Ms. Clark, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Loosbrock,
                             and Mr. Rodman.

 671.   Administrative       It was moved by Mr. Box and seconded by Mr. Metzger that the

 672.   Executive Session    It was moved by Ms. Johnson and seconded by Ms. Clark that the
                             Board of Education goes into Executive Session following the
                             presentation of Informational Items to discuss personnel matters,
                             leaves, resignations, and employment.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote with
                             the following Board Members responding aye: Ms. Johnson, Ms.
                             Clark, Ms. Baldwin, Ms. Loosbrock, Mr. Box, Mr. Rodman, and
                             Mr. Metzger.

 673.   Recess/Reconvene     The president declared the meeting recessed to executive session

                             at 9:05 p.m. and reconvened the meeting to public session at 9:57
                             p.m.

 674.   Family Medical       It was moved by Ms. Clark and seconded by Mr. Box that the
        Leaves of Absence    Board of Education acknowledges the Family Medical Leaves of
                             Absence for the following employees with dates indicated: Lori
                             Cowan, from 6/04/04 to 6/24/04; Jennifer Fehrmann, from
                             9/01/04 to 11/18/04; Kimberly Grimes, from 8/23/04 to 11/17/04;
                             Amy Modzelewski, from 8/23/04 to 10/29/04; and Elizabeth
                             Wong, from 5/17/04 to 6/08/04.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote with
                             the following Board Members responding aye: Ms. Clark, Mr.
                             Box, Ms. Baldwin, Mr. Rodman, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Loosbrock,

 675.   Unpaid Leaves of     It was moved by Mr. Metzger and seconded by Mr. Rodman that
        Absence              the Board of Education approves the Unpaid Leaves of Absence
                             for the following employees with the dates indicated: Janel Cook,
                             from 8/16/04 to 8/25/05; Wendie Reece, from 8/23/04 to 6/07/05;
                             and Anita Vitous, from 8/23/04 to 6/07/05.

 676.   Resignations –       It was moved by Ms. Loosbrock and seconded by Mr. Rodman
        Classified           that the Board of Education accepts resignations from the
                             following classified personnel, effective as indicated: Jason
                             Crockett, 6/08/04; Teresa Davis, 5/21/04; Janice Held, 6/30/05;
                             Michael Madzinski, 6/08/04; Elizabeth Stalzer, 6/08/04; Sherry
                             Weiser, 6/08/04; and Linda Wenger, 6/08/04.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote with
                             the following Board Members responding aye: Ms. Loosbrock,
                             Mr. Rodman, Ms. Baldwin, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Clark, Mr.

 677.   Resignations—        It was moved by Ms. Loosbrock and seconded by Mr. Rodman

 678.   Employments –        It was moved by Ms. Loosbrock and seconded by Mr. Box that
        Certified            the Board of Education approves employment for the following

                             FTE, $39,485.00; Christopher Cebrzynski, 1.0 FTE, $41,854.00;

 679.   Adjournment          It was moved by Ms. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Box that the
                             Board of Education adjourns the meeting.

                             The president declared the motion passed on a roll call vote and
                             the meeting adjourned at 9:59 p.m. with the following Board
                             Members responding aye: Ms. Johnson, Mr. Box, Ms. Baldwin,
                             Mr. Metzger, Mr. Rodman, Ms. Clark, and Ms. Loosbrock.
