How did you get your start in this industry? How well does this office support the organization's mission? What does senior management expect of this department? How well are we meeting those expectations?* Where do you see the department in the next few years? What are the biggest issues facing our office? Has the department's focus shifted greatly? How cohesive is the department? How much influence does the department have in the company? Talent aside, what are you looking for in the successful candidate? Are projects apportioned by job title and experience, or do you utilize a team-based approach? Do the members of the department get along? Is this a new position, or can you share any information about how the position became available? What was the greatest strength of the person who left the position? Are there qualities or experience you're looking for that the previous employee lacked? Are there opportunities for personal growth, experience, responsibility? What are the day-to-day responsibilities of this job? What are some of the skills and abilities necessary for someone to succeed in this job? What is the company's policy on providing seminars, workshops, and training so employees can keep up their skills or acquire new ones? What particular computer equipment and software do you use? What kind of work can I expect to be doing the first year? What percentage of routine, detailed work will I encounter? How will my leadership responsibilities and performance be measured? By whom? Could you explain your organizational structure? How much guidance or assistance is available to individuals in developing career goals? Who will be my direct supervisor? What is the management style of the department director? What is the dress code? What are the company's strengths and weaknesses compared to its competition? How does upper management consider the function of this department/position? What is the organization's plan for the next five years, and how does this department fit in?  What is the potential for advancement? Suggestions: * I often try to speak as though I already work there. Not in each response, but just enough to plant the seed in their mind that I'm already thinking along the lines of what's best for their department and their company.
