Tips for leaving your job
1. Leave behind a very detailed list of where every project stood, who were the contacts, what needed to get done, etc. Make sure you go through ALL e-mails and delete anything you don't want your boss or co-workers to see. Check in with all of the folks that you correspond with in the press and let them know you will be moving on. Make sure you have all of the information that you are entitled to take with you ready to go so you aren't scrambling around to try and find it at the last minute. -Press releases and contributed articles are fine to take but plans and strategy are owned by the client. Plus, anyone leaving with a lot of materials, such as plans and strategies will raise a red flag to future employers. Export contacts from electronic rolodex into a file that you can retrieve later. Save face and maintain integrity. Remember, you are your own brand. Ask for a letter of recommendation from direct supervisor and/or coworkers to add to your portfolio. Focus on the positive aspects of a new beginning, a fresh start, and the contacts that you have made. Try not to speak negatively about your former boss. Gossip can only get you into trouble.
