Nottinghamshire Young People’s Theatre Company presents
THE INSECT PLAY by Karel and Josef Capek
Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th July 2009 at The Riding Hall, Thoresby Park

Dear Colleague,

You are invited to apply for free tickets to bring a party of pupils and staff to the
above event which is suitable for ages 11 and over.

The Insect Play, a satire of modern life, was first produced in 1922. The play tells the
story of a World War 1 veteran, turned vagrant, who seeks peace through nature
from the world of human society and his memories of the horrors of war. Whilst
walking through woodland however, the tramp falls into a drunken slumber and
enters a nightmare where insects take on the characteristics of humans. Looking at
the oddities and emotions of humans via the Cycle of Life – endless and cruel, but
with moments of hope - this play is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.

Performance dates and times
There are three performances to choose from:

 Tuesday 7th July at 7.00 pm
 Wednesday 8th July at 1.15 pm and 7.00 pm

The running time will be approximately 2 hours including an interval. Please indicate
your preference by ticking the appropriate box on the booking form.

Free tickets for schools - book early, limited availability
Up to 50 free tickets are available for pupils and accompanying staff from your
school. However, tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis so
we suggest that you complete and return the booking form quickly. The final closing

Up to £200 assistance with transport
We are able to support your school by paying up to £200 towards the cost of a bus or
coach. The school should book and pay for their own transport. Send your invoice to
me at the Arts Support Service, as soon as possible after the event, with a copy of
the paid invoice from the coach company. If the coach cost exceeds £200, please
charge the Arts Support Service for £200, otherwise the amount should be the cost of
the coach hire. I will arrange to reimburse the school with the appropriate amount.

We Iook forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely
