Physical abuse is defined as an physical injury to a child by other than accidental means
which causes or would likely to cause a substantial risk of death, or serious
disfigurement, or protracted impairment of physical or emotional health or protracted loss
or impairment of the function of any bodily organ. All other reports of physical assaults
against a child come under the category of neglect.

Approximately 61% of reports to the State Central Registry come from “Mandated
Reporters”

Mandated reporters are professionals who are mandated by law because of their particular
