  Make your Computer run Faster
The following is a guide to make your computer run faster:

1. Spyware
Spyware can significantly reduce the speed of your computer and internet connection. Spyware is potentially
malicious running programs that run behind the scenes. They can cause pop ups, hanging of the computer, and
crashes. Many people do not even know that spyware is on there computer or what it is doing to there. There are
many programs available that can clean spyware. Do a search engine, free spyware software, on your computer.
Once you run these programs and update them you will see a major difference in your computers performance.

2. The Startup Utility
A lot of programs are inserting things into the startup utility so that every time you turn on your computer many
unnecessary programs are running in the background without your knowledge. These programs can take up
memory, CPU time, and other resources that can significantly slow down your machine These are programs that
start-up each time you turn on your computer and are running when you don t need them. If you go to start, click on
run, type in msconfig, click on the startup tab, you will see which programs are running and unnecessarily startup
each time you turn on your computer. There are some excellent freeware to help you manage your startup utility.

3 Viruses
Get a good virus detection software package that includes an on-access scan feature (when a file is opened it is
scanned, such as a Word file.) Viruses are a highly contagious way of destroying your computer on the net. Virus,
worms, Trojan horses, they behave differently, but they all are computer system invaders and you don t want them in
your computer. It is the responsibility of every computer user to keep his/her system as virus free as possible by
purchasing, installing and updating antivirus software. Free virus software can be downloaded off the internet. Do a
search engine for Free anti-virus software. If not treated properly they can shut your computer down until you give it
a good reconfiguration. A good cleaning you will see a great difference in the way your computer runs.

4. Free Up Disk Space
This makes a minor difference, but still helps your computer run a little faster. Cache is the information that is
received off the internet to your computer and stored. By freeing disk space, you can improve the performance of
your computer. The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you
can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files. Click
Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup

5. Defragmentation
This is the most significant step to making your computer run faster. Defragmenting is the process of putting your
files into a more uniformed order. This process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending upon how
many files need defragmenting. To use disk defragmenter, click start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories,
point to System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog box, click the drives that
you want to defragment, and then click the Analyze button. After the disk is analyzed, a box appears, letting you know
if you should defragment the selected drives. To defragment, click the Defragment button.

6. Check for Disk Errors
Hard drives can develop bad sectors and slow down disk performance, sometimes making data saving difficult or
even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors and scans for file system errors to
see whether certain files or folders are misplaced or in need of repair. Most importantly, be sure to close all files
before running the Error-Checking utility. Click Start, and then click My Computer. In the My Computer window,
right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box,
click the Tools tab. Click the Check Now button. In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt
recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
