The vacancies below require a commitment of at least one term
and students receive recognition for the work they complete which
looks great on any student CV. There is a more extensive list
available form volunteering but these are the ones that are linked
to psychology. If any of these sound interesting please feel free to

0601893@chester.ac.uk) or pop into volunteering tp arrange
setting the position up.

Organisation:     School Mentoring
Location          Organised by the University of Chester but will
                  take place in various high schools around
                  Cheshire
Dates/Times       Dates & Times of sessions to be organised
                  between mentors & mentees-you will need to be
                  free at least one morning or afternoon a week

Description of    Volunteers must be enthusiastic, sensitive, non-
volunteer         judgmental, good listeners and reliable.
Additional        Volunteers will have to complete an application

                  take, we would encourage potential volunteers to

Role             They would like vols to work with offenders in the
                 community either helping on programmes offenders
                 have been sentenced to complete or acting as a
                 positive role model 1 to 1 in a variety of ways
                 according to offenders needs
Description of   Vols must be considerate of issues regarding
volunteer        offenders & this organisation & must be committed,
                 reliable etc. Please note that this is a very popular
                 placement with limited spaces so we would only
                 like applicants who are looking for this type of
                 experience. All potential vols will undergo an
                 interview process

Organisation     Age Concern – Good Companions Project

Location         They have many projects but this is the Good
                 Companions Project-so all over Chester
Dates/Times      At least 1/2hr weekly but frequency decided
                 between volunteer & client
Role             To do home visits around the Chester area to
                 socially isolated older people. Clients vetted for
                 suitability to join project

                  tea/coffee & lunches and assisting with the
                  activities they put on

check normally done for volunteers working with children or
vulnerable adults. We can carry out one of these if necessary
although if this is carried out by Student Development you must be
