                  Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist (Ref: MDL661BP)

                               £74,504 - £100,446 pa plus £2,162 pa
                                        London Weighting

This is a substantive consultant post in Paediatric Gastroenterology to take on the work generated
by the new development of Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant for severe autoimmune gut
disease, a new NCG funded service that started on 1 April 09. The department has strong
academic links to the Institute of Child Health and you may be eligible for an honorary senior
lecturer post within the Institute. The department of gastroenterology is one of the leading units in
paediatric gastroenterology world wide with many areas of subspecialties including
neurogastroenterology and gut motility, intestinal failure service and small bowel transplant,
inflammatory bowel disease and autoimmune gut disease, food allergy and nutrition, and inherited
and genetic disorders of the gut and pancreatic disorders. You will be encouraged to join any of
the existing subspecialties or develop further subspecialty within the unit. The post will be for a
maximum of ten programmed activities (PA) per week and will take part of the on call rota of 1:7.
You will be part of the Unit of Medicine and Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services (DTS).

The specialty is led by Dr. Mamoun Elawad and consists of 7 consultants, 1 SpR, 1 Speciality
Doctor, 1 Fellow and 2 ST2 along with 5 specialist nurses.

You will possess a broad experience in paediatric gastroenterology and subspeciality experience
in autoimmune gut disease and intestinal failure management is desirable and research in these
areas would be encouraged. All applicants must either be on the General Medical Council’s
specialist register or be within six months of obtaining their CCST/CCT award at the time of
application.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust is a postgraduate teaching hospital, linked
with the Institute of Child Health (ICH). The Trust had 368 beds and provides a comprehensive
range of paediatric specialties for tertiary level care. The patient population consists of over 20,000
inpatients per annum and 84,000 outpatients.
