Objective: Students will write a paragraph about how
       their family teaches character traits.
Benchmarks: Write clearly about a topic. Apply
       knowledge of language conventions.

   • Students will be lead through a brainstorming session
to write a paragraph about their family.
   • The teacher may want to type stories or teach
students to write a final draft after the rough draft is
     written.
   • There is a printable page at the end of the series you
can print for students to illustrate their story.

A paragraph starts with a good beginning
sentence that is a general statement about
your topic.
   • Let’s think of how we could start a paragraph
     about our family
   • Here are some beginnings we could use:
   • My family is fantastic!
   • My family is the best in the world!
   • My family is important to me.
   • My family is the best!
Can you share one you thought of with the
class? Pick one to write on your paper.
     I will use this one:
               My family loves each other.

   • Is it a complete thought that
     makes sense?
   • Did you start with a capital letter?
   • Did you end with a period . or
   • exclamation point

One character trait we could write
about is responsibility.
How does your family teach you
responsibility?

   • If you have a way your family
     teaches you responsibility raise
     your hand!

Did you think of some ways I thought of?
   • Do they help each other out when
     someone has trouble?
   • Do they help each other do chores?
   • Do they make sure you don’t forget
     important things?

Can you give some other examples?
Be specific so we know who you are talking
   About!
Tell exactly what they do to show
   responsibility!

How does your family teach you
responsibility?

   Here is what I wrote:
My family teaches me responsibility by
    giving me jobs to do.
Do you see how I mirrored the
question by using words out of the
    question to form the answer?
Do you see how I told exactly who I
    was talking about?
