Purpose MKC Beauty Academy is a private institution whose primary objective is to provide beginner and advanced training in beauty make-up artistry for fashion, film, and television. We offer vocational training for individuals seeking employment as beauty make-up artists as well as for working professionals interested in continuing an education specializing in beauty make-up. Since the Advanced Course is an advanced course, students are required to have the permission of the instructor and to either have taken the Introduction to Makeup Course, provide a certificate of completion in basic beauty from a respected make-up school, or have equivalent experience. In the highly competitive field of beauty make-up, professional make-up artists must be more skilled than ever and must have a strong work ethic and desire to succeed. MKC Beauty Academy offers complete programs for students who wish to enhance their techniques and style and to develop the professionalism required in their individual career paths. Attendance Policy Students are expected to act in a responsible and professional manner while on the MKC Beauty Academy campus. This includes being on time and prepared for the scheduled curriculum. Classes begin at 9 A.M. and continue until 6 P.M., Monday through Friday. beauty Purpose academy of Hollywood The instructor will determine whether tardiness is excused or recorded in the student’s file. Two tardies equal one unexcused absence. An absence may only be excused for one of the following reasons: a death in the family, the birth of an immediate family member, or illness accompanied by a doctor's note. One unexcused absence in one course will result in a warning from the instructor. Two unexcused absences in one course will result in a meeting with the School Director. Three unexcused absences in one course will result in suspension from the course. Student will be allowed to re-enter the next scheduled course if space is available and with School Director permission. A student who must take a leave of absence (LOA) may do so, provided that the student has first received approval from the School Director. LOA applications are available at the school's administration office. Students who are granted a leave of absence must return to the school within 180 days in order to complete the enrolled program. Students are not given a grade. If the student complies with school and attendance policies and completes all assignments, the student will receive a certificate of completion. Entrance Requirements and Enrollment Procedures In order to begin the enrollment process, please complete an application and submit it along with your $150 deposit(s), which includes a non-refundable $75 registration fee and proof of a high school diploma or G.E.D. The application is contained in our school catalog. Since class size is limited, we recommend that the student complete the enrollment process as soon as possible. To complete the enrollment process, the student must return all signed enrollment agreements and supporting documents. Class availability is based on a first-come, first-served consideration. All foreign and domestic students must be at least 18 years of age and have proof of a high school diploma or G.E.D. If the student cannot provide this documentation, he/she will be required to take an advanced skills test on or prior to the start date. We highly recommend that the student speak with the admissions office prior to registration so that he/she can be certain that his/her educational desires meet his/her occupational goals. beauty Purpose academy of Hollywood MKC Beauty Academy does not provide English-as-a-second language. However, Japanese- and Italian-speaking students will benefit from Ms. Kimura's trilingual status. Note: On class days, the student should bring his/her own make-up kit, a notebook, and something to write with. Career Development Marketing, networking, and life plan lessons make up an integral part of the MKC Beauty Academy curriculum. The lessons are included at no extra charge in every MKC Beauty Academy full course. They include sections on portfolios, resumes, self-marketing, career plans, networking, and professionalism. When available, guest speakers share their ideas and experiences and answer questions from the students. In addition to attending lectures and demonstrations, a student will participate in career exercises and open discussions to exchange ideas and to network. Partnered with The Portfolio Network, MKC Beauty Academy also provides each graduate student a 6-month subscription to an online portfolio. Course completion is required, and MKC Beauty Academy rules and polices will be enforced. Non-compliance with the rules will result in the expulsion of the student from the program. MKC Beauty Academy offers job placement assistance when possible but does not guarantee placement. All post-graduate career services, including certificate preparation, portfolio preparation, resume writing, and job placement assistance are available to graduates. We are not able to tell you how many students graduate, how many students find jobs, or how much money you can earn after finishing this course. beauty Purpose academy of Hollywood Cancellation and Refund Policy A student of MKC Beauty Academy has the right to a full refund of all charges, less the $75.00 registration fee, if the student cancels his/her enrollment agreement prior to or on the first day (for Introduction to Makeup Course) or second day (for Advanced Course) of instruction. The amount retained for the registration fee may not exceed seventy-five dollars ($75.00). If a student has completed 60% or less of the course instruction, the student may withdraw from any course after the first day (for Introduction to Makeup Course) or second day (for Advanced Course) of instruction and receive a pro rated refund for the unused tuition and any other refundable charges. For example, if a student completes only 40 hours of a 120-hour course and paid $300.00 tuition, the student would receive a refund of $200.00. $300.00 / 120 = 2.5 x 40 = $100.00 Refund due is $200.00 from the total tuition of $300. If MKC Beauty Academy cancels or discontinues any course or educational program, the school will refund all appropriate charges. Refunds will be paid within 10 days after MKC Beauty Academy receives written notice of cancellation if on or prior to the first day (for Introduction to Makeup Course) or second day (for Advanced Course) of instruction, or within 30 days after withdrawal at any date after this. The student must return any equipment given by the Academy within 10 days following the date of notice of cancellation if he/she gave notice by first day (for Introduction to Makeup Course) or second day (for Advanced Course), or within 30 days after cancellation following any date after this, or the Academy will retain the portion of the consideration paid by the student equal to the cost of the equipment. STUDENT TUITION RECOVERY FUND The Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) was established by the Legislature to protect any California resident who attends a private postsecondary institution from losing money if he/she prepaid tuition and suffered a financial loss as a result of the school’s closing, failure to live up to its enrollment agreement, or refusal to pay a court judgment. beauty Purpose academy of Hollywood To be eligible for STRF, you must be a “California resident” and reside in California at the time the enrollment agreement is signed or when you receive lessons at a California mailing address from an approved institution offering correspondence instruction. If you do not receive notice from the Bureau, you have four years from the date of closure to file a STRF application. If a judgment is obtained, you must file a STRF application within two years of the final judgment. It is important that you keep copies of the enrollment agreement, financial aid papers, receipts, and any other information that documents the monies paid to the school. The School Director will investigate and resolve the student complaint in compliance with Section §73770, "Student Complaint Procedures." Students and staff may obtain a copy of this section from the School Director's office during normal office hours. Smoking is permitted in designated smoking areas only (outside patio area). There is no smoking allowed inside the MKC Beauty Academy facility. Smokers are required to clean ashtrays after use. There is absolutely no smoking in front of and around the MKC property. All students and guests must respect owner’s property. Non-students are not allowed on premises without the permission of the administration. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed on the MKC property at any time. Students must keep the noise to a moderate level when entering and leaving the MKC facility. Loitering is not permitted in or around the MKC facility. Students are required to keep their work areas neat and clean. At the end of each school day, all students are responsible for making sure the classroom is ready for the next school day. All students must practice proper sanitation and hygiene. Wash and disinfect hands and tools after each use. Please dispose of used items (tissues, swabs, sponges, etc.) in designated trash bins.
