Record numbers attended the final NZ Ranking Tournament for 2007. The Men’s Singles saw a welcome “return to form” by former International Peter Hunt. Hunt demolished all opposition on his way to beat current Black Flights team member Wayne Carey 4 -1. In the lady’s it was a repeat of last year’s final with Auckland’s Peggy Speir squaring off again against long time foe Jannette Jonathan. Peggy looked like claiming the title by taking an early 3–1 lead in the best of 7 leg final however Jannette fought back to reclaim her 2006 title by winning it 4-3. Success at Aotearoa NZ Maori Champs
Taradale’s Phillip Hazel competing in his first NZ Maori Tournament celebrated by winning the Men’s Single Title 4-3 over Rotorua’s Jonas Acton in a very close fought match. In the Men’s Pairs Phil teamed up with son Toko to claim that title as well beating Waihi’s Lou Tai & Whitu Taylor 4 zip. Taumarunui’s Jannette Jonathan reclaimed her 2005 Title by beating Peggy Speir with a convincing 4-1 win. The Ladies Pairs was a different story with new comers Gerri Mac Donald & Melanie Edwards (Kapi Mana) dispatching Jannette and sister Marion Morgan in a very one sided match by 4 legs to.1

End of an Era
Sadly the Wanderers Darts Club has announced that they will no longer be able to host the Aotearoa NZ Maori Championships due to change in management at the Wanderers Club. NZ Darts would like to sincerely thank the Wanderers Darts Club and former owners Pat & Mark Walsh for all the hard work they have put in to establish this tournament for the last 3 years. In regards to the future of the tournament – applications from interested Associations wishing to host it will be sort in January 2008 “Patrick Walsh” NZ Darts expresses its condolences to the Walsh family on the loss of their patriarch “Pat Walsh” who passed away from illness a few weeks after the tournament. Many will remember Pat was a former NZ All Black but mostly we will remember him for his lively personality.

There was a large turn out for this year’s Puma NZ Under 24’s Championships held at the Wellington Darts Association on the 29th Sept & 30th. The weekend started off with a Mixed Pairs event which was won 4-0 by the Kapi Mana pairing of Lewis Temarama & Melanie Edwards over last year’s winners Anita Te Amo & Richard Hubbard (Manawatu). 3rd Equal places went to Tawa & Pinky Paikea (Hastings) and Sebastian Clay & Metua Matangi (King Country) Sunday saw the Men’s & Ladies Pairs Events with Tawa Paikea & Henry Heather (Hastings) beating Capital players Justin Lawson & Michael Thompson. The ladies section saw a round robin played to see Auckland’s Mavai Mataiti & Naeru Watene win for the second consecutive year with 5 wins and after a 3 way play over Runners Up Leah Price & Chaz Sword (Capital) and Raewyn Davis & Anastasia Herewini 3rd In the singles events Tokoroa’s Metua Matangi took out the ladies title over Manawatu’s Melissa Keegan in a very tight game 4-3. While Kapi Mana’s Lewis Temarama successfully defended his 2006 men’s title beating Auckland’s Thomas Mc Dermott A big thanks must go to Wellington Darts for hosting yet another well run tournament and also to all the competitors for turning up to make it such a great event and we know everyone is looking forward to it again next year.

The “G Man” Cometh and Conquers
Auckland’s Graeme “G” Mc Elroy threw some awesome darts to take out the “Auckland Open Men’s Singles” hosted by West City Darts on the 22nd September. Along the way he took out Neil Walker (West City) 3-2, Cyril Larsen (Geyserland) 3-2, John Dodunski (Hamilton) 3 zip, and finally Paul Visschers (Whangarei) 4 Nil - with an average of 29.47. This is McElroy’s second NZ Ranking Title winning the NZ Men’s Single title in 2006 over Joe Temarama which secured him a spot in the Winning 2006 Asia Pacific “Black Flights” Team.
First Win for Mata
Auckland’s Mata Tuao won her first ever NZ Ladies Ranking Title by beating former Black Flights team member Megan Smith in a convincing 4-1 victory. She also took out current team member Jannette Jonathan in the quarter finals and Denise Walker in the Semis in the same manner while Megan beat NZ Ladies Ranked No1 Mihi George 3-1 in the Semis. NZ Team Results at WDF World Cup
The “Black Flights” New Zealand’s national dart team had some mixed results at the WDF World Cup held recently in the Netherlands. Men’s Team Group Play: NZ failed to qualify coming in at 3rd position behind Norway & Australia. Match results vs.:- Australia lost 5-9, Norway lost 8-9, Iran won 9-0, France won 9-5. Men’s Pairs: Warren Parry & Herbert Nathan beat the Greece pair of Pantelidis & Pantelidis 4-0 and then lost in the next round to Czechia’s Miklas & Jenicek 4-2. Robert Grant & Wayne Carey had the bye in their first round and then lost to Australia’s Ian Brown & Kyle Anderson 4-1. Men’s Singles: Parry lost to Hauksson (Iceland) 4-2 Carey – bye then narrowly lost to McGimpsey (Scotland) 4-3 Grant – bye then lost to Krabben (Denmark) 4-0 Nathan beat Glinton (Turks & Caicos) 4-0 then lost to Hanvidge (Scotland) 4-1 Overall the Men finished in 26 position down 8 places from the 2005 World Cup Women’s Pairs: NZ qualified in 2nd position behind Russia then lost to Sweden in the last 16, 4-1. Women’s Singles Mihi George – bye then narrowly lost to M Funch (Denmark) 4-3 Jannette Jonathan beat B Kaachariya (India) 40, then lost to T Salminen (Finland) 4-2 Overall the Women finished in 17 position down 9 places from the 2005 World Cup The next WDF event the “Asia Pacific Cup” will be hosted by New Zealand in Palmerston North Oct 2008

All association secretaries are reminded they must return the delegate attendance forms or pay a proxy vote fee of $30.00 or non attendance fee of $60.00 these are due Saturday 15th December 2007.

The Chief Executive advises all members that the NZDC office will close on 20th December and reopen 14th January 2007

Associations wishing to lodge a challenge for ALL NZDC trophies MUST do so by the 31st December on the Official form and forward copies to the holders and the Chief Executive. These challenge forms can be obtained from the NZDC office or by downloading from our webpage in the “Online Forms” section on our web page.
