ANNOUNCEMENT Laramie Fire Department Entry Level Testing The Laramie Fire Department will establish an eligibility list for entry level Firefighter for positions that may arise in the future. Applications are available and should be mailed to the Laramie Fire Department, Attention Lori Stalder, P.O. Applications must be received by Friday, September 7th, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. in order to participate in the testing process. Saturday, June 9th, 2007 9:00 a.m. Physical Ability Test Orientation: Candidates may attend an orientation explaining the physical test, with an opportunity to view an instructional video, view the test being performed by instructors, be given a training guide, and ask questions. Attendance is encouraged, but not required. Location: LFD Training Facility, South of Laramie, Highway 287. Wednesday, September 12, 2007 6:00 p.m. Written Examination – 1st Session: Candidates may participate in either the first or second session of the Written Examination. A 70% score is required to pass the written exam. The top scoring candidates will be scheduled for the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) on September 15th, to move forward with the testing process. Location: Albany County Fairgrounds, Activities Center West, 3510 S, Third St. Thursday, September 13, 2007 9:00 a.m. Written Examination – 2nd Session: Candidates may participate in either the first or second session of the Written Examination. A 70% score is required to pass the written exam. The top scoring candidates will be scheduled for the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) on September 15th, to move forward with the testing process. Location: Albany County Fairgrounds, Activities Center West, 3510 S, Third St. Saturday, September 15, 2007 7:00 a.m. or Physical Ability Test (CPAT) The CPAT is a physically demanding pass/fail test. The 12:30 p.m. top candidates, based on written test score, who pass the CPAT will be scheduled for an oral interview on either September 16th or 17th. Location: LFD Training Facility, 2451 County Shop Road. Take Hwy. 287 South of Laramie, right on Blackfoot St., Right on County Shop Road. Sunday/Monday, September 16 & 17, 2007 8:00 a.m. Oral Interviews: Interviews will be approximately thirty minutes each. Location: LFD Station II Conference Room, 1558 N. 23rd St. NOTE: It is our goal to establish an eligibility list of approximately the top 30 candidates. If this is not attained, other candidates may be contacted. A combined score of 75% is required in order

to be placed on the eligibility list. Any eligible candidate selected for an available position will be required to pass a medical examination including a drug screen.

CITY OF LARAMIE, WYOMING GENERAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS FOR FIREFIGHTER FIRE DEPARTMENT - LARAMIE, WYOMING QUALIFICATIONS: 1. EDUCATION - High school graduation or equivalent. By equivalent it is meant General Education Development (GED) accepted at the discretion of the Civil Service Commission and the Fire Chief; or combination of sufficient experience and training. AGE - Applicants shall be at least 19 years of age. CITIZENSHIP - Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or a legal resident alien. Previous residence in Laramie is not required, however, residence must be established and maintained if appointed. HEALTH - Excellent physical condition is required. This is checked by physical and laboratory examinations before appointment. The laboratory evaluation will include a drug screening. The applicant's eyesight must meet FAA Vision Standards. Applicant must also have normal depth perception. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION - This examination is conducted by a designated physician. Defects which cannot reasonably be accommodated which would bar the applicant from firefighting work will disqualify the applicant. The City of Laramie reserves the right to require any special or technical examinations. The expense of this examination is paid by the City of Laramie. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION – A background investigation including employment and pre-employment records; records of complaint, arrest, trial and/or convictions for alleged or actual violations of law, including criminal, civil and/or traffic records, whether the records are of a public, private, or confidential nature, will be completed upon an offer of appointment being made. PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE TEST - See information on Physical Performance Test attached. This test is subject to change without notification to the applicant. SALARY - The starting salary for an entry level firefighter is $3,152 per month. Normal increases bring the Firefighter's pay to $4,236 per month. All salaries are set and agreed upon by Union Contract. COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION - Applicants are appointed to the Fire Department only after taking written competitive examinations and being placed on an eligibility list. A passing score of at least 70% is required on the written examination to qualify for admittance to the oral examination. An average score of 75% is required for those taking both the written and oral examinations. Applicants passing both the written and oral examinations are placed on an eligibility list certified by the Fire Civil Service 3

Commission. Selections and appointments are the prerogative of the Fire Chief from the top five applicants appearing on the eligibility list. The list will be valid for two years. 10. PROMOTIONS - The ranks of EMT II, ACLS, Equipment Operator, Company Officer, Shift Commander, Division Chief and Fire Chief are all positions above the rank of Firefighter. Firefighters have the opportunity for promotion to higher positions from written and performance examinations. WORKING HOURS - The Fire Department operates under a 56 hour workweek for shift personnel. The firefighter is expected to be on duty from 0800 hours one day until 0800 the following day. The firefighter is then "off duty" for a 48-hour period. Transfers from one shift to another may be made at anytime without notice. Firefighters are also subject to emergency call back while on their off duty time. UNIFORMS - Firefighters are provided their complete uniform issue as set forth in the department manual. Uniforms shall include dress uniforms as well as cleanup uniforms. All clothing for firefighting duties are issued on the basis of need. Uniform cleaning is paid for by the City of Laramie.
