The Case of Infosys and Accenture
The successful firms, such as Infosys and Accenture strive to achieve unparallel results
by engaging in knowledge war rather than focussing on information war. They are
paragons of employing knowledge as a tool to attain the position desired. The core of
the companies such as these is deriving everything out of knowledge and its
implementation in the business processes. With major world economies already being
or switching to service economies, the concept of managing knowledge is becoming
increasingly important. Human beings are most valuable asset possessed by any
company and knowledge is most potent driver of growth and development of the
company. The one critical factor responsible for efficient companies in today’s business
world is knowledge. The existence of knowledge intensive firms in economies reflects
the value of knowledge management. In the modern business world knowledge has
become an integral part of the various strategies such as business strategy, corporate
strategy, HRM strategy, operations strategy. Hence knowledge is the interlinking factor
between different strategies. Knowledge needs to be managed in the most innovative
and effective manners and who knows this better than Infosys and Accenture who

Both these companies are pioneers in the areas of I.T. and consultancy services.
Infosys and Accenture are among the world’s top firms whose base is knowledge.
Everything they do is built on the foundations of knowledge. In one line they are
knowledge intensive firms. We will begin with providing the company profiles. The
purpose of this case study is to gain an insight into the existence and practices of
knowledge management in these two MNCs and to evaluate the implementation and
impact of the knowledge management on their business strategies. It also looks
forward to develop a comparative case where these companies will be analysed and
appraised in context of how knowledge management is utilized to serve the clients
most effectively and gain competitive advantage in dynamic business environment.
We have collected all the secondary data through various business and industry
publications. Data has also been gathered from other resources such as published
and unpublished research papers. Extensive information has been collected through
the company’s websites and various newspaper articles.
The type of research method used in our case study is-Descriptive study. It focuses
on fact finding in context of knowledge management practices. It is analytical in
nature as we have used facts and figures already available about the companies and
tried to analyse the implementation and execution of knowledge management
strategies. Finally after a critical analysis, a comparative study of KM in the two
organizations will emerge from the case study. We have also tried to apply various
models relevant to knowledge management in the context of Infosys and Accenture.
