                           GROUP INFORMATION 2010

We welcome groups of any size to the garden at East Bergholt Place. The 20 acre
garden and arboretum is particularly known for its Magnolias, Camellias and
Rhododendrons and is best seen in the Spring, there is a splendid display of daffodils
early in the year and fine examples of yew topiary as well as two ornamental ponds
and many rare and unusual trees and shrubs. We have created a waterside walk which
has taken in a further 5 acres of garden.

Rupert Eley is delighted to take groups around the garden and these can be arranged
either midweek or in the evening, (but not during Weekends), the cost is £5 per person
for groups of 15 and more (or £6 per person for groups of 14 and less), all moneys
must be paid by the group leader on behalf of the group. In the event Rupert is not
available Matthew Tanton Brown our Plant Centre Manager and professional speaker
or Sara (Rupert’s wife) may take you around. Although we are a free access garden
for Royal Horticultural Society members this does not apply for guided tours or
individual visits on Sundays.

If you would like to make your own way round the garden without a guided tour the
cost is £4.00 per person in the group paid by the group leader and we advise you pre
book.

We do not operate a full tea room but have a coffee machine. Morning or afternoon
teas can be arranged with home made cakes, notice is required and we need a
minimum of 20 people. We do have toilet facilities (including disabled). We also
run a specialist plant centre which has been set up in the Victorian walled garden and
it is from here we serve teas, this will be open for any visit.

We recommend about 2 hours for the visit, a guided tour will last about 1 hour 20
minutes and will leave your group time to ask questions or browsing in the Plant
Centre. We also recommend sensible shoes as most of the paths are of grass and can
be slippery and wet at times.

We do recommend booking for a large party we can then reserve parking on the hard
gravel and be on site to welcome you and would ask you always to confirm your
booking about 10 days before with numbers.
Directions: The best way is to approach from the A12, take the B1070, signed East
Bergholt, stay on the B1070 driving toward Manningtree, pass two pub’s on your
right, the High School on your left and leave the 30 mile limit, continue for another
half mile until you re-enter the 30 mile limit on the far side of the village, and we are
on the left, exactly 2 miles from the A12 (DO NOT go into the village itself).

We hope this is of interest but please do not hesitate to contact Sara Eley for more
information, to confirm visits and arrange teas etc..
